It was. 2016 was the first year Xfinity did the playoff. That was under a full season format though, right?

7.3M people watched the 2003 season finale at Homestead even though Kenseth had the championship locked up, 2.9M people watched the 2024 season finale at Phoenix. I know there are other factors that go into that, like the absence of alternative viewing platforms in 2003, but it’s still quite the drop off.Lol, Spake brings up ratings when talking about the benefits of a playoff. The ratings tank every year the last few races. What were the ratings in 2003?
The casuals have their football starting sometime in there, so no playoffs and football for Indy compared to playoffs and football on the Nascar side.Palou locked up the IndyCar title this weekend with two races left. I will be interesting to see the ratings for those races.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you saw a slight uptick if for no other reason than the final two races run unopposed to any NASCAR national series events. For the past few years the season also needed on opening Sunday of the NFL season, but the new partnership with FOX ends the calendar on Labor Day weekend.Palou locked up the IndyCar title this weekend with two races left. Austin Dillon did it in Xfinity (then Nationwide) too in 2013.
Let's also remember Cup drivers won most of those races that year, and didn't collect points either. If I'm looking correctly, 5 of the 33 races weren't won by a Cup driver. Austin had an 8.8 avg finish that year. That was under a full season format though, right?
Eh, we have some posters here that are just fine with the playoff points system. I think it is wise to remember these people are always trying to pull people in with their pod casts. Last week or the week before Harvick was all for the lets junk the car crowd. If Nascar would have had a runaway lead everything winner at short track Richmond, they would have never shut up this week. Harvick had to come up with another subject besides car bashing. Hell, I don't know if Manba believes what he said or if it is click bait fodder. With all this discussion about the playoffs, you can tell who the Nascar paid shills are. Guess Mamba doubled down again with Harvick.

See Fox News coverage of the 2020 election, for example.Hell, I don't know if Manba believes what he said or if it is click bait fodder.
Dennis isnt even hiding it anymore. The system is a farce.
It's always easiest to take the negative path. Hamlin is always pushing the easy button on his podcasts. The elephant in the room is NBC who have completely changed Nascar into one big survivor game show. Fans are getting tired of it.Has Dennis ever hid it? He has always been a loud mouth. His pandering to anti-NASCAR NASCAR fans helped him get a podcast.
Pretty simple and easy to follow huh.
He's like you. Badmouths just about everything. Hates the car, hates Nascar, hates the points, that is about his whole world. I was surprised when he posted something positive and useful for a change.Ironic post from a guy who ****mouths the CARS Tour any chance he gets.
I don't think he was talking about the guy who made the tweet. He's like you. Badmouths just about everything. Hates the car, hates Nascar, hates the points, that is about his whole world. I was surprised when he posted something positive and useful for a change.
I love angry old man Mark Martin. He’s not telling lies
1990 Winston Cup Champion.I guess not winning championships makes one bitter.
