Enough Is Enough Full Season Championship.

Evidently the fan base didn’t catch playoff fever and don’t value Game 7 Moments. This should be all they need to end this farce. The Playoffs and its one race championship are dead. Bury it.

That is why he gets paid the big money. More importantly, he didn't come up with that all by himself. The one's that live in the ivory towers know that also.
But it’s already, the narrative being laid no matter what changes they make: “our fans, for better or worse….”

Folks say no one complains about the sport like NASCAR fans do about their’s, well no one hates their own fans more than NASCAR Honchos do. That whole statement Steve-O laid out just dripped with contempt and sarcasm imo. It’s going to be the fans fault the playoffs didn’t work when it was a bad idea all along. Fans arnt stupid, a gimmick is a gimmick.

Eh, the media along with Nascar both have their parts IMO.
Oh sure. When whatever system is announced, say it’s a full season you’ll have the same media members that would chastise fans for wishing we could go back to that now say it’s the greatest thing ever. The whole well is poisoned if you ask me.

This year, I completely lost interest in NASCAR once the playoffs started. Sure, I still had the race on one of the TVs every week, obviously on mute. But hardly paid much attention.

Playoffs will never work in motorsports. It was a dumb experiment and the novelty has worn off.

Pretty much. Most of the fans who are griping about everything they can possibly find to gripe about will find something else whatever the format is It's not rocket science why Nascar pays little attention to the fans. BUT in this case and they have seen it for three years straight this one race defining who is champion for a year is B.S.. It was so lopsided in the Trucks and Xfinity who was the best that even the casual fans could see it for what it is.

I feel sorry for the 17th place team, they have no possibility to advance their season standing but they can lose positions. The playoff teams should not get a big point bonus; when they are eliminated from the playoff they should continue to compete with the rest of the field for their final standing.
That’s always been one of my biggest beefs with it. Maybe let the Championship 4 keep the top 4 spots in points, everyone else should regress back to the season-long standings.

All one has to do is think a bit. Lets do this or lets do that, and then the gimmicks begin to creep in. This is simple. Drivers playoff all year long, they all know each other, some hang out together. They don't go overseas and play the F-1 ers, or lets go race the Indy bunch.

Stick an ballers don't play each other every week. They need a playoff.

Stick and ball sports can have playoffs or not: Depends on their structure and history. I wouldn't want an English Premier League playoff because it isn't necessary there when every team plays every other team a set number of times home/away and the fans there never demanded it. OTOH if the English Premier League instituted a playoff and ratings and attendance dropped dramatically and sponsors were concerned about the fans reactions to the league, it doesn't seem very smart to assume the EPL's best option is to double down on what they'd been doing.

If you haven't watched and/or listened to the Coffee with Kenny videos with Mark Martin, you should check those out. They talk about, obviously, the points, the current Cup car, drivers not being the stars they should be, letting drivers show their personalities, etc. It's in 3 parts on YouTube.

Well it was legitimately rediculously decided when Byron blew a tire and the dust cleared. Ironically Hamlin in two other points systems wouldn't have been a champion either and you know that would have been brought up for infinity and beyond.
Guarantee if they go to a ten race, if a driver who is low on the totem pole wins the championship unless he is highly popular not many fans are going to be happy about it. Race fans are different. You would think they would have figured that out by now.

Yeah but I can accept someone getting hot over a ten race stretch easier than lucking their way into a finale because better competitors fall out in one round or the next. What Tony did to claw his way out of tenth was the kind of Game 7 moment you can't force.

One out of many and we still remember it. Not a reason IMO to throw away the 36 full season, because there will be way more numerous battles for positions to report about if they have a sharp broadcasting team. That's a big IF though.

I’ve had that same feeling since after Logano won in 2022. Watching playoff races feels like a chore. At least in the regular season the race is more the show.

I for one want to ask these drivers and some team owners where they were for the last few years on voicing their opinion about playoffs. All of a sudden they grew a pair and said something when they know it's suppose to change. What a joke.

Possibly my favorite championship battle of the chase era. Tony was lights out over them 10 races, one of the best 10 race stretches tbh. To end with the only tie in history was also crazy.

You know Carl is thinking where he could have maybe pushed a little bit harder for that one extra point in another race.

If I were Edwards that one would haunt me more than 2016, but he seems stuck on 2016.

So all that bit about 'We're waiting for the season to be over so we don't distract from the championship' was just bilge water? What's next, 'We're waiting so we don't distract from the Daytona 500'? These guys should get out of racing and run for office instead.
The last fan council survey of the year just dropped. They want to know my opinions about my favorite drivers......

I am hoping I am wrong but the delays lead me to believe will just do another reset revision.
They just want to look like they are being good careful stewards while continuing with some form of the same old BS.

If they were actually going back to a full 36 race points system they would be more eager to make the popular announcement.

Dale Jr seemed to hint last week that the 3-3-4 format was DOA. So my guess is they're going back to the Chase.

Personally, I'm fine with that. Bring the Chase back, and then extend it to 36 races and expand eligibility to anyone who competes in the races.
3-3-4 would've been four times better than what they have now and a 10-race Chase would be ten times better.

It's a step in the right direction.

So far they haven't told anybody how the playoff clown show will work. Nothing about the season points system or points fudging, cut lines, win and you are in nonsense.
So far any changes to the playoff and point systems were always announced at the January 'Media Day'. I don't expect to hear anything about the 2026 championship before that.

If you run the math, the 3-3-4 format is the fairest “postseason” format. Playoff points carry to each round so it would actually reward full season performance.

For example, Kyle Busch tanked in the 2008 Chase despite leading the points all year. He would have made the Championship Four in a 3-3-4 format.
