ESPN fires Marty Reid

no doubt they were the best in the booth. I always wonder what happen to bob Jenkins?

He retired last year - had been with NBC. Wen his wife was diagnosed with cancer, he announced his retirement, even missed the Baltimore race. He's doing stuff with IMS Radio and NBCSN on a very limited role.

thanks for the info. Did not know all that. the three of them did a good job.

I don't get the channel obsession either. Too much talk about this.

Lets all move on to rear windows.
You bring up a valid point..... How will the move to NBC affect your rear window removal idea. I guess I've been missing the big picture here. :D

Rather than hijacking Marty Reid's hate thread there's already a thread on the NBC discussion here. I don't know that there's really any more news on this though until it's announced or something else leaks on it.

I wonder if we should start the Mark Martin - The Alcoholic Years Thread? That was starting to get interesting. Was he racing drunk or not? Hmm, inquiring minds want to know.

Whenever Mark would exit a race early, he and Marty used to party in the NBC broadcast booth, so all this is relevant to the thread subject. Well, other than the rear window. Sorry about that.

I believe he quit drinking way before that. I want to say it before he ever drove for Jack but could be wrong. Gotta give him a thumbs up though for manning up and quiting.
Kind of ironic that he quit drinking right before starting at Roush, and his first sponsor at Roush was Stroh's Light. That couldn't have helped.

Since we're still on Mark's alcohol problem..... Where are we getting all of this reliable information on when he was and wasn't drinking? Just curious.

That's what I thought. I heard Joe really wasn't all that reliable. Now, his wife Jane on the other hand. You can trust her info.

Good thing Jane typed up the free Mark Martin alcohol timeline that's free with the purchase of a case of Stroh's Light at Joe's liquors.

I could talk about this all day, but I'm off to Grandfather mountain to walk the mile high swinging bridge. Catch you later.

Yes, sorry, we've derailed this thread enough. Back on to thread topic.

I've never been a Marty Reid fan but I wish him luck in his new endeavors.

Yep ...it's definitely hijacked.
It could have been worse. I had thought about mentioning how the government shutdown has thrown a wrench into my plans while attending the upcoming Martinsville race. I know how Andy likes to have threads moved to the Podium. ;)

It's pretty much part of the legend of Mark Martin. I've seen and heard articles and interviews about it many times over the years. Everything I've ever seen says Jack knew about MM's drinking issues, and part of the deal with Jack was MM had to get his drinking problem under control.

Like the story when MM was 5 years old, his dad made him stand on the seat behind the steering wheel of his car and steer the car while his dad worked the pedals, hauling ass down the dirt roads of Arkansas.

These are things that have been told over and over and are pretty well known about MM.

Regardless of how you feel about him, I think he handled this as well as any lead broadcaster could have:

There's more to the story that ESPN hasn't informed us on. It had to have been a long time comming, perhaps some newcomer with friends higher up was looking for a promotion and a person in a position of power decided Marty was the low man on the totem pole...
