F1 overtaking slashed in 2017

I don't remember hearing about or seeing any speeds, but I'd be willing to bet if they ran at Daytona they'd probably trim out a lot and be right up around the 230 MPH mark.
Trim out...makes me think of my flying days...make sense tho-Ive heard the F1 cars described as land bound planes.

They have made the cars wider over the years which multiplies the passing problem. Not only harder to pass on the track but more room for aero do hickies to muddy up the air. They are longer than years past also. But putting the jack back into the box isn't probably going to happen. F-1 cars used to be tiny.

They ran 230 at Indy last year, so with the new bodywork and trimmed out/geared properly with qualifying boost, and those 33 degree banks, they would probably warm up at 230! They would kill somebody if they tried to race like that, but finding the speed would be easy.

230? Hell, Rusty ran, what, 224 at Talladega in a test session.

F1 got slower in a straight line, quicker everywhere else this year so I if I had to guess I don't think they'd be crazy fast at Daytona. An Indy car trimmed out for qualifying at IMS could beat them in a straight pretty easily. Vettel had a trap speed around 225 MPH at Mexico, with the longest straight on the calendar and high altitude. Perez hit the highest at Monza around 222.

Sorry. I must have replied out of context. I meant to say that Indycars would go like hell at Daytona. Like I say, they run 240 at Indy, so if the trimmed them out and re-geared them, it's hard to imagine how fast they could go. it would certainly be stupid fast.

Ive taken an Indy car around Daytona on Iracing, but as you said the setup wasnt perfect for the track so the engine is running wide open and wants to go faster but can't.
