facts about Dale Earnhardt

Bucky,

So it would appear that we should overlook the facts and only consider what the media made of the man?

He was a drunken playboy who was spending money faster than he could make it. He abandoned his wife and children, not just once, but twice, and probably would have died just another race driver who blew it all if it were not for his third wife and a good business manager.

And so many folks think this guy was the second coming, or at least close to it?

Sorry friend, but I learned many years ago that usually the truth and what passes for history in all those books are quite different.
Those books only tell us what the author wants us to know, facts seldom enter into the equation, unless of course, the facts happen to support the author's view.

Yeah, Earnhardt was exciting to watch on the track. So were a lot of others, equally talented, who never figured out how to B.S. the media as well.
Of course, by selling Dale Earnhardt to the public, they also sold NASCAR; that helped more than just a little bit.

And then there's boB. The voice of sanity. Again. Calling a spade a spade. Yes, there are many of us who are amazed by all this idol worship. But for the most part, we just sit back and let it be. Why not?

For me, Dale was an exciting, successful, but ruthless driver. Great for NASCAR. Great for the business of racing. Even now. A public personality who achieved success way beyond the expectations of most. I don't particularly care about his private life or that of other sports celebrities. I worry about mine and my family.

Folk hero to many. So be it. We all set our own criteria.
