This week marks the halfway point of the season. Which means that registration for the 2016 season is officially closed. I have mentioned this a couple times before, but I realize I did not include it in our overall rules post. In the history of this league, several people come and go throughout the season. In 2016, we even have a winner who would fit that category. By closing registration at this time, we avoid that kind of distraction and in the meantime focus on those who have been supporting the league all year as we get closer to the Chase. This also makes my job a lot easier with the projects that are still currently in production.
If new players really want to join, they can compete in the Xfinity and Truck Series, but without choosing their own numbers and will not be eligible for the Chase. They still may be able to win races. However, the Cup Series is not open to new players at this time. New players will have to wait until 2017.
VikesFan4Life (#00) made his/her first start this past weekend and is a welcome addition to the league. The announcement for the registration closing this week is not being made in response to VikesFan4Life joining, I had planned on this decision a long time ago. VikesFan4Life just happened to come in at the last possible week.
Also, after this week we will have our 2nd Quarter Report. If there anything you would like to see in it that you didn't see in the 1st Quarter Report, let me know! I'll do my best to get that out there for you guys by Tuesday and have prediction post out by Wednesday.
I don't like making everyone wait till the next day for results. Like NASCAR, I very much would like for you to leave and go to bed knowing who won the race. If I cannot make that happen for you, I want to give you as much of a prior notice as I can. This past weekend I failed to do so due to a minor emergency. Everything was fine, but I just want to thank you all again for your patience.
The Coke Zero 400, unlike its unpredictable nature, was primarily a battle between 4 of 2016's top players. MJM (#84) showed up strong at the start and at halfway. Braindead Zombie (#88) poked his nose in the heat up front once. But it was a duel between Jolly Mean Giant (#67) and David (#97) over who would take the checkers along with Brad Keselowski. Ultimately, it was David winning his 2nd race of the year joining only Petr Smetana (#43) and @DanicaFreak (#7) as the only players with multiple wins in Cup. And while he has no award to show for it, it should be noted that @Bob (#94) had the highest average running position throughout the race and finished solidly in the Top-5.
