finally on pit road

Co-worker had his kid in the NTI school. He graduated 2 years ago. He's been on some Cup teams for brief periods. But, he had to settle for ARCA for now. He had hoped that being at the tracks, working on an under-funded team would help him catch on with a better team. This year he's looking at ARCA. His dad has done a lot to keep him in groceries and such for him to follow his dream. But, then he's in his early 20s so it's a little easier for him to endure the hardships. It sounds like you are nearing 30 so it could be a hard row.

Multi you won't see the guys you are talking about at the credential office. They have HARD CARDS with their picture on it. That is all they need from race to race. Come on you are behind times.

Yes I relize that most all permanent team members have had hard cards for about six years now but stilll a portion of team members and assorted hanger ons have temp or weekly credentials that must be picked up at registration . If you recall the inccident with a member of the Best Buy team a year ago that took his credentials to the local Kinkos and had them duplicated and passed the fake one to his buddy to gain entrance to the pits . These are not hard cards but must be picked up by a team member each week . The next time your around the pit area check out Morgan Sheppards crew members about half of them always seem to have the type of credentials I am speaking of.

Mshay if you think the overtime at your local factory was tough NASCAR may not be for you . Starting at the bottom they are going to work the heck out of you and you will get every crappy job that there is . You seem unsure about what you really want to do and you have no chance of making it with out bull dog determination .

Someone in a prior post made the comment that teams are moving towards professionals this is so true and as an older guy without a degree I can not tell you the number of times I have had some snot nosed kid come in with a fist full of degrees and end up being my boss in six months . That sheep skin has more pull then 25 yrs experince so you might want to consider getting more education . The days of getting a job because your slick on a english wheel or a great welder are comming to an end. For the record most of the guys I know in racing have burned up atlest two wives some even more but dont let anyone talk you out of it because it can be done if you want it bad enough .

As long as we are talking about thinking like a woman . Heres what my mom said when my father retired from a life time of working in racing . " If he had of put all of that time and energy into anything other then racing we would be multimillionaires"

This is real life.

I didn't try to paint a rosy picture because there isn't any. The sport is saturated with wannabe team workers and pit people, just like it is with race car drivers. I too know a few that haven't made to the big teams. And the ones that did spent so much time away from home most marriges suffered for it.

Being unhappy in a present job situation is unfortunate but sometimes that is the way life is. When you have to put food on the table and send kids to school, sometimes you have to just suck it up and stay with it. I had to do the same until the kids were gone from home, out of college and the bills paid. It was only then that I had the luxury of getting a job that made ME happy. When you have a wife and family you have responsibilites. If you value that family, you do what is important for all of you..........not just YOU.

Sorry of no one likes my opinion. I was never one to live in a dream world.

Sorry guys but I must take the other side.

Who, mshay, is going to take care of and support the wife and kids while you are out chasing your dream. Which is more important to you, your dream or your family.

IF I GO TO NTI MY PARENTS OFFERED TO LET MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER STAY WITH THEM, AND THEY WOULD PREFER THAT ANYWAY. WHEN I TOLD MY PARENTS THAT WE WHERE GOING TO MOVE MY FATHER SAYS OH YEAH GO AHEAD AND SEE WHAT THE COURTS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT. HIM SAYING THAT BASICALY MEANT I WOULDNT BE ABLE TO "TAKE HIS GRANDAUGHTER AWAY" WITH OUT A FIGHT.

YEP THATS RIGHT MY FATHER CARES A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT MY WIFE AND DAUGHTER MORE THAN HE CARES ABOUT ME

I think that i have a very good chance of getting on a race team, hopefully in mooresville. my thinking behind this is as follows i have 10 years working on cars such as major engine work and all aspects of repairing parts on cars except electrical , i went to school to learn how to paint ,weld, frame straightening, basicaly all body work on cars. i have built drove and owned several types of race cars drag, road racing, dirt and asphalt oval cars.

im not just a guy that wants to try and get on a team and be trained for a job , i have what i would consider alot of racing and car experience. so i think my skills would prove to be good enough to be hired on any racing team.

oh and by the way my job barley pays the bills its time to find a career i love that can pay the bills.
when i mean barely this is what i mean work 35 hours and bring home a 140 paycheck, thats after health insurance, taxes, tool insurance, tool payment, and disability. now tell me my paychecks are good . would you enjoy bringing home 140 dollars, could you live happy on that kind of pay.
DOUBT IT!

Plus you have to be detail oriented to make it in the big time and you don't even realize when your caps lock is on. So maybe it is better if you keep plugging along.

When I first read this post I thought it was a little disparaging but after reading post after post by Mshay in caps you maybe on to something BP.

Nope, I would find a job that paid more. Or another career.

But for me, it is a matter of doing what is best for all in the family and not just necessarily for me. But that is just me and my priorities.

Whatever your decision, I wish you luck.

yep thats why im going to try a career in racing.

I hope that includes your family, so there's not another child out her without a daddy. Have your tried UARA-Stars, USAR Hooters Pro Cups, ASA Late Models, or Arca. Some of these you would only be gone on the weekend.

ok there may be some confusion here.

when i go to nti my wife and duaghter will be staying in ohio, i go oct. 29 for 63 weeks. when i graduate if i dont have a job with a team a few months after i graduate i will come back to ohio. i will keep looking for a race job while in ohio, and when i get on a team they will come with me wherever that may be. its the 63 weeks im mostly concerened about no wife no kid, well maybe every few months for a couple of days.

this is her choice to stay in ohio while im in school. if she came she would be lonely and not working , i would be going to scool and working so she says she would be lonely and would rather stay while im in scool. but she will come when i get a racing job

You'll be missing out on your child's daily life for more than a year!

well yes im going to miss that but i need to pursue the chance to go to nti, and try to get on a race team. i cant talk my wife into coming down. so i guess i will see my daughter maybe one weeked a month. but .....

Which program at NTI have you decided on entering, have you applied yet, and have you been accepted and given a start date. Have you investigated housing, part time work, etc while you are there.
