The NASCAR Cup circuit is off to the Irish Hills of Brooklyn, Michigan as the Series makes its only stop of the season at the very fast Michigan International Speedway. With only 1 race to go after this one until the NASCAR Cup Playoffs start, Stage points and Playoff Points will be at a premium as the jockeying for playoff position intensifies.

The best part of this weekend used to be the truck race which unfortunately won't take place this year.
Michigan is perhaps the track that has been hurt the most by "the package". The last four races there have all been follow-the-leader track position races.
It's showing the truck race is on Friday 9 pm FS1

Agreed. Barreling in at 215 and braking down to 165 was awesome to watch and rewarded daring and skilled driving. Now? Mat it and turn.

So how much will Larson win by?
I think this is about as sure a thing as Chase at Road Courses.

Larson won 3 in a row here for CGR. Driving for HMS, while HMS is whooping the field? Should go like the 600, imo.

With resin that was used at Nashville but never at Michigan so it could be interesting either way pass or fail.

that front row might put themselves into another zip code after a few laps lol

They weren’t braking down to 165 lol. Gordon ran a 206 MPH lap in qualifying here, they definitely were holding around 180-185 into turns.

Also let’s not romanticize it too much guys, in recent years clean air and such high entry speeds made passing nearly impossible. If anything for the sake of competition this is the one place that needed lower HP and drafting. Not Daytona/Talladega but definitely the ability to get a run down the straightaway

They were braking to 165 during long green flag runs....

And in recent years the lack of passing was due to the LACK of horsepower and high downforce because everyone was essentially running the same car. Look at Michigan races from the past and you will see there was a ton of passing.

not really. At the height of the recent high HP and low d/f 2017 there were 8 passes for the lead and 11.6 per green flag lap. Last year there were 12 passes for the lead and 20.8 per green flag lap. I know that is tough for flat footers to swallow..excuses are plentiful, but thems the stats. Michigan was a single file follow the leader parade.

Were those numbers skewed due to extra restarts from stages?

Both of those are green flag laps. 2017 had 8 cautions and 2020 had 9
Ok. My original point for passing and corner speeds was mid-90's to about 2012...when i thought Michigan was one of the better tracks on the schedule. I probably should have worded it better

Won't matter because STAGE RACING FOR PLAYOFF POINTS
That’s true! The days of a driver completely checking out and driving away with a 400 mile race don’t happen AS easily as they once did.

Well, as we've seen, the 9 team has lost their mojo at road courses (to a great extent) so...

Have they tho? Should've won the Daytona RC (love those rainbows), ran 2nd at Sonoma which is his best finish there, won COTA, won Road America, would have won the Glen by 10 seconds without the flat spot or possibly even the pre race penalty, and was in it until the end at a new venue Sunday.

He'll 3-peat at the roval in the payoffs and I'd bet a lot of money on it.

Agreed, that's fair. He wins Daytona and WG hands down without the f***ery. Roval's the last winnable race for them this season, but I hope I'm wrong. (I have slight hopes for Bristol, Martinsville, Phoenix)

I think Chase is going to be a problem at Martinsville (he figured that place out last year).
