Been getting acupuncture (along with cupping) for my neck muscle damage, and now for what might be a pinched sciatic nerve. It does seem to be working on my neck... too early to tell for the sciatic nerve.
Getting acupuncture pricks are almost unnoticeable except where you already hurt, and even there they're no worse than a flu shot. However, the doctor also "stimulates" the needles and that can be a bit uncomfortable for a short time. He tried electro-stimulation on my nerve area and that created a warming prickly sensation. Overall acupuncture isn't nearly as bad as I imagined it would be, and it does seem to help more than I thought it would.
Cupping on the other hand can be intense - especially over the area that already hurts. Getting the cups put on is no big deal, but then he moves them around and that can test your endurance. However, he only moves the cups for ten seconds or less at a time so I can recover without biting off my lip. When he's done his "artwork" is a bunch of bruising that looks like somebody worked me over with a baseball bat, and it will feel warm and a little sensitive for a few hours. But not bad enough to be overly sensitive and when good buddy slaps me on the back I can take it.
Hope it fixes you up!
