McGregor made a strong showing given how impossible his task should have been, and whatever payday he takes away ($50 million or so from what I understand?) he actually earned. That said, I don't think Mayweather was ever not in control. The plan to let McGregor wear himself out in the first 3-4 rounds was very deliberate and methodical, and that discipline is why Mayweather is 50-0.
I am surprised McGregor was able to land so many punches, and much credit to him for learning so much so fast. But Mayweather was never hurt, and the actual outcome was never in doubt. Much more credible fight than I expected though.
