Goodyear Racing Notes: Bristol Motor Speedway
Goodyear will bring new left- and right-side tires for this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race on the concrete at Bristol Motor Speedway. This new Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup is designed to minimize the day-to-day temperature swings we have seen recently, as well as withstand the track’s high speeds and heavy loads.
Goodyear conducted a two-day tire test at Bristol last November with Alex Bowman (Chevrolet), Ryan Preece (Ford) and Bubba Wallace (Toyota). That test provided crucial data for Goodyear to develop the new setup.
“The objective at our Bristol tire test in November was to develop a setup that is less temperature dependent at laying rubber down,” said Justin Fantozzi, Goodyear Director of Racing for the Americas. “We heard loudly from the teams about variations in weather between practice and race conditions, and the need for a tire solution to address this. The track took rubber in November under rather cold temperatures, and again at the March OEM Wheel Force test. Our development team did a great job, and we are very pleased to be heading into the weekend with this new package.”
The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will race on Saturday and Friday evenings respectively, with both series using the same Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setups that teams have run on Bristol’s concrete since September 2022. Teams in both series will use inner liners on the right-side tires at Bristol.
Goodyear Racing Eagle tires are also in action this weekend in the NHRA Winternationals at Ponoma Dragstrip, California, and for the opening round of the European Le Mans Series at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Spain.
