For the Ford fan

Very cool article. I was never a manufacturer guy. I was always more of a cheer for a driver no matter what they drove, but I am starting to become more of a Ford guy minute by minute. Now I still don't like or cheer for Keselowski or Logano, but I tolerate them more now.

Hope not but Roger can be flippant about the addition because he will prob be with another MFG when the Gord deal ends. He's not been terribly loyal to anyone ever in NASCAR.

calling B.S. on that lol, stayed with Dodge until the end. Kept many on in the engine department building for the various Dodge teams in other series.

Penske has done a bit of manufacturer hopping during his time in Cup though, going from Pontiac to Ford to Dodge back to Ford. Also, a lot of people forget he bailed on Dodge before they officially pulled out of the sport. Penske announced very early in the 2012 season that they were switching to Ford for 2013. IIRC, Dodge was trying to stay in the sport beyond 2012 (they designed a Gen-6 car to run in 2013), but couldn't find a viable team to align with.

I've always wanted toyotas for my personal use, but growing up I always like ford racing. I credit it all to Wallace anyway, but since then i would gravitate towards ford drivers with roush and all, then I'd try to stick with that guy going elsewhere but never liked when they drove for another manufacturer.

That part about Dodge is true with their Nascar car for a short time, but Dodge shut down all racing operations in all series shortly after that. Back in the day they all were jumping manufacturers for whom ever made the slickest body

I wish they would have stuck around. Rumor was that Dodge was courting RCR pretty hard after Penske made the Ford announcement. Had Childress bitten on that offer, Dodge might still be in the sport.

Wouldn't surprise me a bit to see Penske go to Chevrolet when their deal with Ford is up. They're already running Chevrolets in Indy Car. And I'm sure the bow tie boys would throw a ton of cash at him to do so.

Makes me wonder about the another owner of multi-series vehicles.

Certainly a died-in-the-wool Chevrolet loyalist in Brian's world but may be seen wearin' Lexus caps in support of other stuff he plays with.

Wouldn't surprise me to see that it also wouldn't surprise me to see ganassi go to Ford in cup considering they're huge relationship in sports cars

what else is there to run in Indycar? Penske would put a Porsche motor in one if he had a choice IMO.

if you listen to the podcast they say that both Stewart Haas and Penske are locked up for long-term deals with Ford
yeah for sure things can change, but for the immediate future if Ford lost those two they should hang it up Nascar racing..Roush is like throwing money in a hole.

Considering it's a long time from now I guess we could say that they could go to Toyota Honda Nissan Volkswagen Fiat any of the above because if we're going to say something hypothetical so far out who knows what's going to happen

About Roush, I guess but you could say that about all the second-tier teams that get manufacturer support.

If memory serves Roger pulled the plug on Dodge for Ford and Dodge was in some sort of discussion with Michael Andretti before folding their tent. Roger is expedient not loyal.

two motors are killing that series if you ask me. My tweaker fix would be to find another series using multiple motors and bring them into Indycar along with the two they have

Well both(one for certain)cars could be in the playoffs this year so call them what you want.

you are the one who called Roush second tier support bud. Not me. Penske was wooed over to Ford and then after two years of Roush continuing to crater SHR was brought on board

Ford is way more involved in/supportive of NASCAR so it made sense to make the switch. Penske was building their own engines with Dodge and now they can just be supplied and supported by R-Y, and Dodge would never have had anything like the technical support center Ford has in NC now. Roger has always been about taking whatever the best overall business package/deal is.

And I think it was Andretti Autosport that were sooo close to becoming Dodge's new flagship team after that. They were about to acquire property in Mooresville, had a PR guy signed, supposedly had Kurt Busch lined up, just didn't close the deal for whatever reason.

I never said "second tier support" I said second tier team as in results, people, etc.

Ok got ya. I think. lol

To clarify that's teams like Roush, RPM, RCR, compared to teams like FRM,LFR. Teams that get manufacture support but are second tier teams. I.e. Roush. Compared to teams that don't get manufacture support but are second tier teams. Any week it's not surprising to see the 95 outrun the 27 or the 34 outrun the 43 etc.

So to go back to your original post about those teams as in Roush being a waste of money that would be a consideration for all the non top teams. In conclusion I don't think it's Justified to say any team is a waste of money they all have to have building blocks and start from somewhere even if they're starting over.

You are correct. Penske jumped to Ford because Ford was willing to go 5 years on a contract for support, and dodge was only willing to go 3. There was already writing on the wall that Dodge was looking to leave, and if they had stayed it would have been because of Penske. Without Penske they didn't have a reason, and so they left.

I don't agree.. Roush has been at the forefront of Ford Nascar racing for over 20 years. At the time when Penske came over to Ford, Roush wasn't in any way a second tier anything. I don't guess you were around when they came up with a rule limiting team owners to 4 teams because of Roush racing.

True very true, but in reference to the last few years they have become a second tier team.

Actually Roush was other than the 99. Which we all now know the 99's performance was more due to Edwards than it was Roush.

Yeah, RFR was still pretty stout in 2012. I think Kenseth led the points for much of the regular season that year. Edwards was a little off that season, but Kenseth and Biffle were both pretty good.

love to see where it says that anywhere. I also don't know what that has to do with manufacturer support. That info is pretty much insider info I would guess.

The fact the manufacture support is the only point. Doesn't matter how much. It doesn't have to say "second tier team" anywhere that's pretty obvious with the results they are outrun by JGR,Hendrick,Penske,SHR,CGR,FRR on a consistent basis.
