You guys will get a kick out of this, earlier today I was in Food Lion ( Southeast Grocery Store) and noticed this guy shopping wearing shorts and I thought who is this nut its 35 degrees outside, Well I walked by him and thought I recognized him but didnt say anything and then a few minuets later saw him again and as I passed by him I said " Hey Butch" and he turned around with a look on his face like do I know you and I said no you dont know me but I know you, it was none other than the great Butch Miller, a short track racing Icon from the Mid West who has moved to Myrtle Beach. We Talked for a few minuets and then he said nice talking to you and thanks for recognizing me lol. Super Nice guy.

Wow great story but I am still most surprised him wearing the shorts he is old enought to know better. It is currently 15 degrees here in Greenvile SC, will drop down to 12 before it is over

It is actually currently warmer in Ukraine

Butch is from Michigan, he probably thought it was still warm

I loved growing up in that era.
I got to see Butch Miller, Bob Senneker, Ed Howe, Junior Hanley, Jody Ridley, Rusty Wallace and so many others race my hometown hero Jim Bickerstaff and rival Mark Malquit on many occasions.
So many great memories!
Glad to hear that Butch is doing well.

Yes sir. He told me he is working with Mike Cope running the Trans Am series. He said he finally got smart by going to the track and getting paid instead of wondering how he was gonna make the next race. Imagine a guy like Butch, a legend in the Super Lates having to worry about paying the bills. Racing is a cruel business but once it gets in your blood you are helpless because its so addictive.

Is that the same Mike Cope who raced in the Nascar All American or former All Pro series in the late 80s or early 90s?

Just found this on Copes web page

Former ASA Champion and retired NASCAR driver, Butch Miller, will be joining the team for 2022 . Miller brings with him knowledge that can’t be bought and only learned through years of being around these type of race cars. Miller will work alongside Mike Cope and the entire team to assist the Arrive and Drive program as well as aid in track support to all Cope Chassis’ in the field.

I got to see Butch Miller race and win but the first memory I have was from the old Stock Car Racing magazine pictures. I always liked the way his cars looked. It was also the first time I had ever heard of Port City chassis or race cars.

I wonder if that was the year DW won the All American 400 with the lightweight cheated up car (the story goes that they sneaked a tungsten fake radio on to the car at the scales to make the inspection weight).

you are correct! I just watched it and Waltrip won

Sorry I spoiled it. I thought the link was only the heat races.
Nah, you're good. Hell while I was watching the feature I didnt think Waltrip had a chance but when Alexander and Bobby fell out that opened the door for him.

The community I live in is like a ghost town the last few days of this cold snap. We just ain't used to temps below 70.
Lakeland is 90 minutes north of us and seems to have a 5 to 10 degree difference in the temperature. Most of the homes here are heated with heat strips in the a/c unit. It is the world's worse heating system as all it does is warm the air for a few minutes and when temps get below 55 or so, and it can't provide steady, even heat. The best hear ever is the old water heated radiators.

It's so funny when I show up to work down south in a sweatshirt and it's 40 degrees. I get a lot of "you must be Yankee"
