I thought this would fit here. Praise be Jesus. I miss those 11Am Central start times, this is one of the 2 or 3 gripes I have with today’s NASCAR. The start times suck now, the networks may finally be figuring this out that starting the Premier race of the year later opens you up to a weather issue. Hopefully this thinking will permeate the rest of the race times.
That is true, but when it is forecasted to rain later in the day it gives them a chance to get the race in before the rain starts. Plus people can watch the race and then go do other things. I would be all in for a 8.00 am west coast start time.Earlier start times do not guarantee races without rain delays. What are we gonna say when the 500 is supposed to start at noon and it rains until 6?
The idea isn’t to control the weather. The idea is to have the largest window possible to get the show in.Earlier start times do not guarantee races without rain delays. What are we gonna say when the 500 is supposed to start at noon and it rains until 6?

For a mostly spring/summer sport that does not operate in any inclimate weather, have a majority of the start times later in the afternoon is asinine.
What they said. If you can’t see that by someone saying an earlier start time guarantees a bigger window to get a race in then I don’t know how else to make it clear. I would be of the thinking to ensure you have as much time as possible to get your biggest race of the year in. I feel this is insured by starting Noon eastern time. It’s also a personal preference to start races earlier because I like having the rest of the day after it’s over but that’s just me.That is true, but when it is forecasted to rain later in the day it gives them a chance to get the race in before the rain starts. I understand it, but my point is there is no guarantee that a longer window will result in earlier finish times. Technically better odds but at the end of the day, it is Florida and there is always a 50%+ chance of rain. What they said. Most casuals also seem to prefer later start times and I'd bet that is the only reason the 500 was moved away from the noon slot.
For a few hours prior to the 500, there were blue skies and the track was dry. If the green flag was dropped at noon, there would have been ~2 hours of racing before the rain came, and that may have been enough to get to an official race. Personally I would rather have a race start much earlier in the day, watch it for a few hours, and then go about the rest of the weekend instead of keeping an eye on a 6 hour rain delay and a race ending at midnight. Had it not been for President’s Day there is no way I’m staying up to watch the end. Most casuals also seem to prefer later start times and I'd bet that is the only reason the 500 was moved away from the noon slot.
