Glenn "Fireball" Roberts won his last race (The "Augusta 510") on November 17, 1963 at the former Augusta International Raceway.
That event was the second race of the 1964 season. By the second race of the 1965 season five of the top six finishers in that event would lose their lives on track: Glenn "Fireball" Roberts, Dave MacDonald, Joe Weatherly, Jimmy Pardue and Billy Wade. The sixth driver was Ned Jarrett.
Safety has come a long way, but yes we will lose more hero's.
