Good run for Hideo

i was totally surprised when i saw him... was this his first race?

Great to see him running out there with all of Nascar's big boys.

He showed that he can run with the big boys. Just get him more 'sperience and he'll do just fine.:calpping:

What he needs is a real motor. Same with Tim in the 71. Speed cost, how fast ya wanna go?

And yup, he did good. Held his line and started at the back on restarts so as not to get in the way. Tim was doing the same thing. They both knew they were outclassed without a chance of regaining laps so why be part of a wreck that doesn't need to happen.

Back Row Joe is a class act.

what exactly happened i noticed he was "out" when i got back

Don't know exactly what happened........he dropped out after being black flagged or something. Think it was maintaining minimum speed thing. Or maybe he just did the right thing and got off the track to not jeopardize the full time Cup drivers. Either way he did good........and yeah, he is a class act. Did you see the prerace thing with Wally? Good man.

Too bad that he is in a pretty much non prepared car. That 66 wasnt good at all this weekend even with G Bodine in it. It would be interesting to see what happens if he was in some better equipment.

Somewhere along the line he and Kenny Wallace made contact. Maybe half way was just far enuf for him.

Im glad he did well today, I hope bigger and better things await him in the future!

I guess I'll be the unpopular one and say that I can't give a thumbs up to a guy who was being lapped every 25 laps. Yeah, he was in a car that was not top shelf and sure it was his first Cup race, but I cannot say he 'did good'.

And I am gonna agree with ya RC, I didn't like that about Shawna and I dont like it about Hideo. Yes he kept it clean and when told to take it off the track he questioned it but did not argue the point. Haas/Carter needs to give him some Busch or ARCA time if he just wants to get to know the tracks and get some experience running with Cup level competition.

Kel

Actually Kel, it is being reported that Hideo went out with tranny trouble.

As far as Haas/Carter goes, Haas has been in the racing biz since the early 50's and has won 11 championships over the years in various series. USA Today has called him "One of the most powerful men in the history of auto racing." Mario Andretti, Micheal Andretti, and Nigel Mansell have all driven for and won championships for the man.

Add in Christian Fittipaldi, Cristiano da Matta, Todd Bodine Jimmy Spencer. Over the years other drivers have included World Champions Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, Jackie Stewart and Alan Jones, CART Champion Michael Andretti, five-time LeMans winner Jacky Ickx, Brian Redman, Patrick Tambay, Paul Tracy, Roberto Moreno, David Hobbs, three time NASCAR Champion Darrell Waltrip as well as NASCAR drivers John Andretti, Jeremy Mayfield, Geoff Brabham and Robby Gordon.

Yer not talking about some rookie owner here. The guy knows racing.

I have to go with RC and DJfan on this one. I do have to give him a heads up though for not wrecking anyone. Must wait and see how he does if he's on other tracks.

Hideo did allright. Considering he races primarily on road courses. He kept from crashing anyone. He got out of the way when he needed to.

I think the translation had some effect on his performance,as did having mech.problems.I would like to see him run a full season in Busch series, and then run a couple of years in Winston. He was a pleasure to watch on TV.Seems like a good sport for sure.;)

Good for Hideo, I hope he stays around!

Maybe "some" just don't like him because he Japanese....hhhmmmm....

I believe he was 3 or 4 laps down when he left. Jr was 3 or 4 laps down too right?

I wouldn't say Junior did well either.

Do you support Shawna's presence in Cup, Paul?

I gave Hideo a chance and came away unimpressed.

He has two more races to attempt this year, we'll see if he makes 'em.

What were your expectations?

Unlike several highly hyped "first timers" in a Cup race, Hideo did not wreck or cause a wreck.........even though he was never competitive. That is why I gave him an "atta boy.......job well done". He got experience and did not tear up either his equipment or anyone elses'.

I guess he met them. I expected not much.

However, that does not mean I think he 'did well'.

I expected little of Shawna, and she met those expectations ... but I'm not going to be telling people here that I think she did a good job in a bad situation.

You just said you "gave him a chance", so what were your expectations?

Why weren't you expecting much? Why is he different than any other first timer?

He is no different than any other first timer.

I expected little because he was with a weak team and he has limited NASCAR experience.

I expected him to be a field filler, and he was. That does not mean I think he did a good job. I can't give props to somebody who drives around just making laps.

Perhaps he should have tried a BGN race first.

LOL

Because his car stayed in driveable shape longer. For that, he gets an attaboy!

Seriously, he was the first car lapped - within 25 laps no less. I cannot say he did a good job or that I was impressed with what I saw. If you were, good for you. Hideo has two more races this year to impress skeptics such as myself.

What could he have done for you to say he did good?

The way I look at it is he didn't wreck, he didn't wreck anyone else...so he didn't do horrible. The opposite of horrible is good.

• Be competitive.

• Pass a couple of cars on the track.

He did neither, but there is always Martinsville.

Plus, he went out there and faced complete bigots that pre-judged him soley on his race.

Who said you were?

I'm listing things that I feel he did that deserve an attaboy.

Nobody said I was, just clarifying.

Had a great debate, but Life 101 beckons.

Go easy.

I don't think that's correct Paul........I highly doubt any driver out there pre-judged him. And Certainly not on his race. Maybe you are talking about a few "fans"?:)
