Good track to visit

After owning a mini-motorhome from 1974 until 1989 when we bought a class A, we sold the Foretravel in 2002. I miss it at times but think our race days and campgrounds had come to a close. Now, I appreciate your posting the website of a tour company and that it got a thumbs up from "whatsizname" is a good recommendation.

Jewel whizzer, just call me jewel the African translation of Johali if Johali is too hard for you to remember. :p

I just got back from the race weekend at Kentucky Speedway, I am thinking of going to one more Cup race this year, but kind of limited on to where. I was thinking of going back to Talladega in the fall, but what about Atlanta or Chicago? I do want to go to Bristol at some point.

I know it's plate racing, but I love the close racing at dega, just get bored watching a stung out race.
I'd wana go to Bristol. That'd be my second choice after Talladega(or Michigan bc its close). You've been to Dega and Bristol will give you the close racing you're lookin for so... BRISTOL BABY!!

Thanks for all the responses i wasnt expecting so many. I will definitely be looking into a tour package as that looks to suit my needs. Ive just got a new job and ive already got the International Series game booked so i dont think they would be too happy if i try and get some time off this year.

Sorry to Lap3Forever for hijacking this thread but im looking at attending a Nascar race in the future but i want to give myself as much time to plan and prepare and i have read the advice given on a separate thread and its been a great source of information so instead of creating a new thread i would use this one to ask people what circuit would people recommend for a first time race goer?

I wont be camping as i carnt drive which might limit my race options as would it be possible to attend a race using public transport at all?

Thanks for any help.
I believe Richmond, VA still runs free buses to and from the track from a couple of points in town. There's a train from San Francisco, CA to Sonoma. The Charlotte, NC bus service runs to the track year-round, not just on race weekends. I can tell you that Bristol, Martinsville, and Darlington do not.

If you'll buy my ticket and hotel room, I'll be happy to chauffeur you around. :D

For the racing: Martinsville
For watching women and tailgating: Charlotte imo

Your mileage may vary, Charlotte is convenient for me.

A few years ago I went to the Chicagoland race using public transportation. It involved catching a train out of Chicago that went to Joliet, where the track is actually located. Then there were shuttle buses running between the Joliet train station and the race track before and after the race.

The thing is, I don't know if they still run the shuttle buses on race day anymore.

For what it's worth, I caught a Metra / Rock Island District train at the Chicago's La Salle Street station (in downtown Chicago) for the trip (about an hour and a half) to Joliet. Here are a few links that might help.

I see your from your profile that you're from England. A weekend trip to downtown Chicago that includes a Sunday race at Joliet could be a lot of fun if you can afford it.

This year's Chicagoland race is September 15th on a Sunday afternoon.

good luck

Just found another link that might be helpful:

Thank you for the links its something i will look into as Chicago is a place on my list to visit and thats got me thinking that i would like to attend a race that is close to a City thats worth a visit rather than a Circuit in an area that doesnt have much going for it apart from the race. It would be great if i could take in a NASCAR race and a college football game in over a 7-10 day period.

The tour packages that Texas Race Lady listed look very appealing price wise.

Our trip with them was very good price and convenience wise, we had a good time.

Glad I could be of help.

After looking at those tour packages, I recommend that you go with one of those as opposed to the adventure of using public transportation.

Regarding a college football game, Northwestern is the major college that is closest to Chicago, as it's located in the northern suburb of Evanston.

Schedule link: http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-13/big-ten/2013-northwestern-wildcats-football-schedule.php

There are other major colleges in the midwest (Illinois, Notre Dame, Purdue, Wisconsin) but it would involve considerably more travel from Chicago to get to one of those games.
