I've already said it in another thread on this, but I'll say it again...

The safety crew can't leave their positions until the cars slow. The hit was a very ahrd one and PJ could have easily been injured yet have to wait for medical assisstance simply so we can watch the cars finish under green.

I just don't buy it.

I'm all in favor of a green/white/checkers finish, but I'm absolutely opposed to putting someone at risk jsut because I want to see races end under green.

NASCAR spokesman Mike Zizzo said the yellow was waved because there were at least six cars racing on the track behind Jones' wreck and NASCAR did not want to delay the safety crew from reaching him. Jones was not injured.

Why should it matter if they were racing behind them??? Is that another judgement call my NASCAR??? A crash like that should always bring out the caution, no questions asked!!!

Just another case in point why Nascar needs to got to Green/White/Checker across the board in all their premier series. If they do this then the drivers will know what to expect and the fans will also. Like i said in a post last week the only place this wouldn't work is on the Plate tracks, there they should use the under 5 lap rule. No restarts unless there is 5 laps or more on the plate tracks. I think this would simplify things quite a bit. I just can't understand why Nascar hasn't done it along with eliminating the lucky dog pass.

Of course I'm just guessing, But I think Ryan and Kasey both would have gotten back on the lead lap on their own. They had very good cars. What it would eliminate is the cars getting lapped every 12 laps get a caution back on lead lap, Get lapped, get a caution get back on the lead lap.

Probably not. Could have been DJ though.


I'm Kinda in favor of the lucky dog. Keeps more cars on the lead lap.

That would be correct, dino. If he hadn't received the "Lucky Dog" pass, it's quite doubtful that he would have won. Early in the race (lap 22, I believe) he pitted, thus putting him a lap down.


Oh, and one more time! I KNOW AND UNDERSTAND why they threw the yellow flag at the end of the race! And, I agree that the way the rule is written that the yellow had to be displayed.

I don't know about that!! At the time Ryan and Kasey lost their lap Jeff Gordon was eating 'em up right and left!! I doubt they could have caught him and taken the lap back by racing. By the time Gordon blew up and they got to a point where they could race their way on to the lead lap time would have run out. I think they may have gotten back on the lap with the leaders, but I don't think they would have had even a top ten race. Jeff was brutal til his engine gave way!

I think it is a lot more important for the yellow to be thrown than worry about finishing under green, especially considering the impact that PJ took. If it had been a minor accident where the car was out of the way then maybe let them race back. More worried about the safety crews getting to the driver than checker.
As far as the lucky dog pass I don't really care much one way or the other. Like they said on TV though, that having the lucky dog it lets the team take the chance of pitting and using the lucky dog to get back on the lead lap. Otherwise they might stay out and have the motor blow or a tire blow and cause a wreck that takes out other cars.

i'd like to ask zizzo why he has so many z's in his name ...also, if they were so worried about getting the safety crew to him quickly, why didn't i see a crew at his car when newman passed jones' car the next lap?

if they did decide to go to a green/white/checkers finish, or 5 laps, or whatever, i'd say they should have a maximum set...say once or twice. if they wreck after a g/w/c restart, the race would end under caution. after the second try at finishing a race with a g/w/c, it starts getting really rediculous.

Good point about the second try thing with G/W/C, i agree after say 2 trys it does get kind of counter- productive.

Very good post.

It definately gives more cars a chance to win a race. I believe newman has won at least 3 races with the lucky dog free pass.

IF - Newman wouldn't have been given his lap back he MIGHT have caused a 40 car pile up and LePage would've won the race.

Of course if Gordon hadn't blown an engine he may have won as well.
