Grunge, Cobain, other music

Yeah, it's really no comparison.
I thought they only had released the one single on a 45 :D
7 albums? Must not be good stuff. The only song I've ever heard on the radio is Smells LikeTeen Spirit. I couldn't imaging listening to 12 tracks of the same noise.

Typo on my part. I meant 3, not 7. Lithium? In Bloom? Heart Shaped Box? If all you have heard is Smells Like Teen Spirit, you should listen to the radio more.

For the most part L.A. radio has really taken a dive in the past decade. The stations play what they're paid to play, most of which I do not care for. We do have a classic rock station but it plays the same songs over and over. Plus radio is over-modulated and sounds compressed.
I have Microsoft Sync in my Focus with a USB port in the dash. It's also Sirius capable, although it isn't activated. Right now there's a 8GB flash drive in it, plus I have a few hundred more songs on my iPhone that will play via Bluetooth or with a charge cable in the USB port. The Sync system operates manually or by voice command. You can say "Play Rock" or any other genre. More vehicle manufacturers are offering similar systems as standard equipment these days. It's seems the only reason to turn on the radio now is to hear the news, weather or traffic.

I don't even listen to regular radio anymore. Its either my iPod plugged into the car or the home, or Pandora radio.

Nirvana is overrated. I know so many people my age who think they're the greatest band ever but can only name one hit song.
The Grateful Dead can fall into that category in some regard. Everybody knows the name of the band and most people know about how loyal of a following they have had over the years, but how many hit songs can you name of theirs? I never got it myself, but they obviously meant something to an awful lot of people and I can certainly appreciate what they have brought and continue to bring to the lives of those people. The same can be said for Nirvana. As I've said before, I don't like their music, but I know people (I have a niece in particular) who could relate to the guy and his lyrics and it helped them cope with their own lives and the struggles they went through.

I can't say as I ever head any band that was described as grunge that I enjoyed at all, but Everclear has been called "post-grunge", whatever that is, and I like them quite a bit.

If any of you are craving some good 'new' rock n roll... I'm currently all about the following right now:

Dispatch
Gary Clark jr
'Older' Queens of the Stone Age
The Black Keys(don't let the radio singles fool you)
'Older' Arctic Monkeys(again, don't let the radio fool you)

Anyone here into ska-ish stuff with horns and what not?

As far as Nirvana, I don't care for the band but they did a ton for the Seattle music scene... There would probably be a lot of bands that never existed without them.
I like Gary Clark Jr quite a bit and The Black Keys are from my home town and I like a lot of their stuff, too. I've never really heard any of those other ones. I pretty much never listen to the radio. I almost always listen to music on Rhapsody, MP3 or Youtube.
