Hall of Fame class of 2014

Larry Phillips got snubbed. I'm not surprised though. Replace "Late Model" with "NASCAR Modified" or "Winston Cup" and he would've made it in. :bsflag:

Uh oh, Bruton Smith wasn't inducted. :( He'll probably threaten to close Charlotte Motor Speedway now. :D

BTW, that'd be fine with me if he did. Just hold races at Rockingham, Bowman Gray, Hickory or Caraway.

Roberts and Ingram very worthy imo

Here's the fan vote results for the HoF.....

The fan vote for Hall of Fame was: Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick, Dale Jarrett, Benny Parsons & Fireball Roberts.

Here's how the HoF vote went down today.....

Hall of Fame Class: Tim Flock (76% of ballots); Maurice Petty (67%), Dale Jarrett (56%), Jack Ingram (53%) & Fireball Roberts (51%)

If Fireball had not made it this time there would have been a major earthquake-volcano like eruption from Perdido Key Florida reaching to Daytona and all the way to Charlotte..

Nothing is perfect, and I am pleased with 4 of the 5 entries, that is close enough to perfect for me.
But Fireball going with the 5th most votes is bothersome.
His entry this year should have been a slam dunk.

2014 Joe Weatherly is a must .

Well I am glad that it was dale instead of DW. I think that DW was over rated as a driver and even more so now that he is in the booth.

how can Dale Jarrett be in HOF?

Couldn't agree more. The only thing that makes me happy he's in is he's not on the track anymore:D I don't see his career as HOF worthy (Not even close), but there's some other ones I don't get either.

Among inactive Cup drivers not already in the Hall, only Bill Elliott and Bobby Isaac won more races than Jarrett.

Unlike Jarrett and Elliott, Isaac never won a Cup championship and I don't think Elliott is eligible yet.

If I had to pick someone other than Jarrett it would be Fred Lorenzen.

I just disagreed with the timing. I was thinking 4 to 5 years from now. Apparently Nascar wants someone young enough in every class for folks under 30 (which is understandable).

I think Joe Weatherly shoukd have the spot, but you cant please everyone.

....... Apparently Nascar wants

I don't get it , this has nothing to do with what ' Nascar Wants ' , this is voted on by a panel of members from every facet of the sport . Voting is tough from a list of 25 possibles and voting gets split , like in any other election .That's why it's so easy for Danica to win the fan vote . You guys won't all vote for one male driver. As for Nascar finding some way to fix the election , that's the usual 'total crap '.

I guess my fan vote of Jimmy Means, Casey Atwood, Hermie Sadler, Mike Bliss, and Loy Allen meant nothing.....

@NASCAR_Wonka
I hope you enjoyed watching Dale Jarrett get inducted into the HOF because its the last time you'll see a modern driver of the #88 get in.

Gosh did you have to quote me with Andy's theatrics :)

I am not much for conspiracies but Nascar is a buisness first, and there is pressure from the top.
The Hall needs to satisfy the youngest market or most impressionable demographic something like 18 y/o to 34 y/o.
Putting a Rusty Wallace 2013, or Dale Jarrett 2014 allows that age group to see an inductity that they are familier with, ,someone that many living fans was able to see while that driver was in his prime.

I just dont think better drivers got as much credit. Fireball not going in last year, and the least votes this year is very telling.
Many folks in the 60s or early 70s would have told you he was the best ever, without hesitation. That is a memory/legacy that should not have to take a back seat to Wallace or Jarrett.

If you still unconvinced consider the Ann Francis nomination, does anubody really believe she belongs in the company of Petty, Pearson or Allison? I would hate to think anyone could be so foolish, it purely a result of peer pressure to kiss France butt. A corporate vehicle because real people know better.

Wendell Scott when he goes in, it will be racial politics making a concession. He did suffer as a black man trying to race, but there is at least of score of drivers from the same era with better records that will be most likely denied.
Tiny Lund, Neil Soupy Castles, James Hylton, just to name a few.

Jack Ingram, , I got to see Jack and Robert Pressley race quite a bit at the asheville speedway. They were awesome. Congrats to all that were nominated and to those who got in. I'm sure the others most have mentioned will make it in in time. Its a tough vote and process. However it does give most people something to SIT AT HOME AND BITCH ABOUT !!!!!!!

Lot of good memories. Ingram was a short track hero of mine.
I loved the Ashville track, during the times I went there they would invert or at least have Robert the back.
30 cars on quarter mile track, it was a great.
Robert and Bob would mix it up too, I thought they were going to fight each other after one race.

1 Cup Championship, 3 time Daytona 500 champion, 32 cup wins (21st on all time list), 260 top 10s in 668 cup races (batting .389 for career)

looks worthy enough to me.

I am a bit surprised Jarrett got in so early, but he still had a great record. Joe Weatherly is basically a shoe-in for next year's class now.

I never considered Jarrett. I thought he was one of those that would go in a few years down the road.

Glad to see no active owners or track owners getting in.

I would say the front runners for next year's class will be Joe Weatherly, Fred Lorenzen, and Tim Flock.

As usual in next years class there will be four that us old boys like and one that piss us off. Wish they would hold a vote "out", top contenders Rusty, DW and DJ , they need to come in in four or five years, In My Opinion.
