Made a good basis for many Modifieds, back in the 1970s...

I bought a Gremlin when I graduated from High School, I bought it new for $2500, it was a cheap car. It was a better car than the Pinto and Vega that my friends had. I painted the grill like a Gremlin X. It had a 3-speed manual, no synco for 1st gear. I put 100,000 miles on it.

Knew a girl, while I was in college, who had a Levi's Edition Gremlin. It was about seven or eight years old by then, and really showed a lot of wear for its mileage. Don't know if she was the original owner or not. She drove it around for a while, then suddenly showed up in a used Pacer instead. I think the Gremlin had gremlins, so she swapped it out...

Never underestimate the vehicles manufactured by American Motors.
People gave them a bad rap because the trim and finish were not the best.
We owned a used car rental company and those Gremlins and Hornets were dependable vehicles.
The darn door handles and interior trim might pop loose but they ran, and ran, and ran, and never stopped and aside from the little things, they were dependable and were the least expensive to maintain. Those engines were bullet proof.

They were only a 7/16 diameter sized pushrod away from dominating Nascar.
