Harvick at the awards

What was everyone's take on Harvicks opening line about standing on Rudd's car? It didn't appear to go over too well. No one laughed and Richard Childress looked like he could hurl. I'm not a big Harvick fan but wanted to hear what everyone thought.

He merely tried, lamely, I admit to make a joke about his confrontation with Ricky.
Mentioned something about standing on the hood of Ricky's car and thanked Ricky for throwing his Hans device back to him. Sooooooooo, it wasn't well, received; big deal. He is young; God forbid, and needs to learn a wee bit of finesse. Nothing wrong with Harvick, he will learn as we all must. :p

Maybe I'm old school, but most of the young guys seem to be a bunch of disrespectful punks with Harvick being the worst. I guess that's what sells in the "new Nascar". Kenseth is probably the best behaved of the young guns. I will admit that the no fear driving of the young guys is fun to watch but it would be better if they kept their mouths shut. They might would have more respect if they weren't handed the best equipment right off the bat. Most of the older guys are humble because they had to work their way up.

Just my opinion

Harvick has "tamed" down a lot. As has Tony and Robby.
There, is, however, still one big mouth out there that needs to learn a LOT!!!!
I didn't used to care for Kevin, but in recent months, my opinion has changed. He ain't all that bad a guy.

I'm sorry to have to disagree with you regarding most of the young guns being disrespectful. Please give a reference where Jimmie Johnson or Ryan Newman were disrespectful. You must not be watching the same thing as I am. As for Harvick, I wouldn't call him disrespectful either. Emotions and tempers are usually what are driving these actions, and everyone handles their emotions and temper differently. So, if that qualifies as being disrespectful then it's not just the young guns being disrespectful.

This is just my opinion. Your opinion and mileage may vary. ;)

very true, Johnson and Newman are pretty stand up guys

I was mainly thinking of Harvick and Kurt Busch. I guess they've all had their moments and some of the guys are learning. I guess it just takes time. Harvick and Busch will probably out grow it. Robby Gordon actually has turned out to be a pretty cool guy. I used to think he was the biggest bum out there.

Good points guys

Question: When does a 'Young Gun' become an 'old a$$h&*e'? Just wondering... B)

I don't know if disrespectful is the best word to put on it, but I for one got real tired of Jimmie always wanting everybody to move over and let him pass. Earn what you get or do without it.

I thought it was pretty funny, but it wasn't the smartest thing he could have said.

What is everybody's problem with Harvick? He's a racer in his own...
He doesn't kiss ass, he doesn't whine like a little baby... he just goes out, races his race car, gives his opinion, and goes home. What is wrong with that?

If emotions weren't allowed in NASCAR, then it would defeat the sole purpose of racing. If someone was to wreck me, I'd let em know I wasn't happy about it... just like Harvick does.

I guess some of you forgot where racing really came from. If you watch classic races, you see that 97% of the drivers had a really bad attitude, but ya know what the kickass part is? Those drivers are now legends!

The legends you are probably talking about didn't talk the talk until they could walk the walk. He's good, but he's not there yet. He needs to act like it. Even mentioning him with the legends is a stretch at this point.

What is everybody's problem with Harvick?
Since you asked...

He's a snot nosed loud mouthed obnoxious little punk who deserves someone pounding his skull in, the sooner the better. He's a dirty driver but don't anyone dare touch his car, oh no! He could not possibly be 1/3 as good as he thinks he already is. He has no respect for any other competitor, and no business being where he is until he gets some. He combines Darrel Waltrip's mouth with Dale Earnhardt's disgusting driving style to become as uniquely unlikeable as any driver I have ever witnessed.

Since you asked.

I would have alot more respect for him if he had paid his dues in a lesser car before being handed a top notch ride. It's not his fault, I would have taken it too, but he needs to realize what he has and act like a professional.

Oh, really? He shows no respect to his fellow racers? That's funny...
If he shows no respect, then who was one of the first ones there to give congrats to Terry Labonte when he won at Darlington this year? If ya can't remember, here's ya a picture..

Learn before you speak, my friend.

Ohhhhh.... and by the way, what about when Dale Jr won at Talladega this year?

What does Jeff Gordon have to do with it? Please explain.....

It may be a strech, but his agruement about harvick not getting top notch equipment right away is not a good one. Gordon had pretty good equipment, Jimmie got good equipment, Newman got good equipment, busch got good equipment, kenseth got good equipment.

Some people just rub others the wrong way. You can't blame the driver for what ride he was offered. Was the driver supposed to turn it down and say " I have to pay my dues". I am a big fan of Harvick and did not like his ricky rudd joke. There were other drivers that made similar jokes of similar confrontations throughout the year.

Your right Jeff has nothing to do with a good old bash Harvick tread.Kevin don't do half bad. He flew off the handle twice this year. Like a lot of other drivers. Maybe the ones that are bad mouthing him are mad. They wanted him to fail because he has run so good in what was once Dale sr. car. Or maybe there is a lot of jealousy involved.

You have no earthly idea what your talking about. But it's your opinion, and like I said on another tread. Opinions are like butt-holes everybody has one.

Learn before you speak, my friend.

Oh trust me, newbie, I am learned in this sport. I've forgotten more about racing than most will ever know. So Harvick runs up and steals some of Terry's spotlight and mugs it up with Junior. Big whoop. Joining Terry Labonte is the only way he's gonna see victory lane at Darlington. When he demonstrates an ability to handle a race car as proficiently as he shoots off his mouth maybe he'll earn some respect. Until then, I stand by my assessment. I've seen dozens of Kevin Harvicks come and go, mostly go. Guys like Rob Moroso, Mark Martin the first time through the ranks, and countless others. Flashes in the pan. Mark learned his lesson. Kevin does not show the same learning yet. Get his bell rung enough though and he will....or it'll kill him one or the other.

My 2 cents.... I think Kevin tried (and failed) to make a joke, and I didn't like it. He (IMO) has cleaned up his act a lot this year and I have started to give him the benefit of the doubt. He no longer seems to be a loud mouthed brat and deserves a chance at gaining more respect.

HAHAHA, yeah, but with guys like EMP, that'll never happen. He knows everything, so just agree with him.

Oh, and by the way... this NEWBIE has been a NASCAR fan since he was 6 years old, so yeah... I guess I am a newbie. 13 years not enough for ya?

Holler at me in 17 more, when you get to where I am now. 1973, way before your time. Newbie.

Age is just a number, which means nothing. Just because you don't like Harvick doesn't mean you have to show your ass to everyone else. Yeah, everybody has an opinion, but the way you state it is entirely different.

I like Harvick, he made an attempt at humor, I didn't like it. However, I think it's important to see that he realized the stupidity of his actions and made an attempt (no matter how lame) to "make up" with fans. Of course, we as fans (obviously in light of other responses) don't forget stuff like that too easily. If nothing else, we can let his future actions determine if he's changed...after all, he wasn't too bad after Richmond...was he?

Also a point worth mentioning here: Richard Childress knows the value of public relations and that old 'grizzled' image portrayed so well by Dale Sr. An obvious fact is that Kevin is very likely the most 'scripted' driver out there. Delana is in the PR buisness after all....Not a word comes out of the guy's mouth that isn't rehearsed and approved by his handlers.

Tony Stewart speaks his mind. Kevin learns his lines in my opinion.

I think I have to agree with that last statement. It's like the drawn out process for selecting Sauter at the driver of the AOL car...all it did was stir up some interest in a car that hadn't done anything all year. Childress knows his stuff.

So, I guess that means it was scripted, rehearsed, and approved when Kevin said 'G.D.' at Richmond?

Then why did you bring it up in the first place?

You're fun, I like you.

Did you happen to catch lap 5 at Miami?

yeah, I caught lap five at miami, it looked like an accident to me. When I first saw it, Ijust thought, "oh man, that was a crappy thing to do". Then, when I look at replays, I couldn't really tell if it was intentional. New configuration, early laps, three wide...who knows. Besides, I'm not marking him at St. Harvick, though that is a funny prospect.

It doesn't matter what he does, people will still pick apart everything he does. If he didn't touch another car, said everything PC, people would still find stuff.

The only reason I think people have to make fun of him is because...hmm...he beat your driver.
