I really think this applies to many kids in school. So many kids go through school without having a single friend. And yes, the sad part is that quite often, the parent is completely unaware. Not everyone is super outgoing and super social. Even at 27 years of age, it takes some mighty courage for me to actually approach complete strangers in person. I'm an adult though...I can deal with it. It should be a different story for kids. If you notice someone who is always by themselves, don't be a stranger and avoid them just because they are too shy or too introverted to approach you. Just actually going up to them first and attempting to start a conversation could make them the happiest they've ever been. I think the real secret, as stated in the article is to have that conversation with your kid. You are their role model. Typically if you tell them what's right and what's wrong, they will listen.
