Heat races at Indy

Yeah, this is terrible. Good thing it's only 60 laps. Maybe somehow strategy will make the end better.
 
I am actually thinking that mowing my lawn would be a bit more exciting.

At one time, I did. But then I saw the two previous sets of heat races this season and the reality proved me very, very wrong.

I can freely admit it. Let's hope whoever at NASCAR thought it was a good idea can also make the same admission.
 
The Xfinity series takes everything that's bad about the Cup Series and multiplies it by 100.

Gibbs cars dominate Cup? You haven't seen anything, just check out the Xfin races!

Only a dozen drivers compete for wins in Cup? There's MAYBE three or four (on a good day) with a shot to win an Xfin race!

There's a few Cup cars without sponsors that get lapped early in the race? Well there's a dozen in Xfin, and some of them don't make it 10 laps!

Gimmicks in the Cup Series? Don't worry, Xfinity has "heat" races!
 
Seriously....Gibbs, Penske, Hendrick (JRM), RCR, Roush, Ganassi, Petty teams rule the Xfinity series....is there a single non Cup team that even gets near the top 10 on a semi regular basis?

Don't look now, Ross Chastain is up to 14th place! How exciting!
 
Heat races ??????? I thought they were just warming up their engines :D:rolleyes:
 
Whoever thought this would be a good idea should be shot. The 2500 people that sweat their balls off in the stands are probably quite annoyed and rather chaffed.

The heats were bad before but this track is just...wow.


On top of that, because of all their bull**** before the "main", The time slot ran out with 9 to go right as a few were putting under caution. The DVR only recorded 2.5 hours(should be ample time for a 100 lap race with one ****** caution). So I sat for about an hour and a half of **** for no reason. Sweet.

Who won? I have a pretty good guess.

Ah gotcha. I was still half asleep and saw '2500 people' in both our posts. Made me wonder. Lol.
 
I thought the heat races might be good but they're not. None of the drivers care about them, the fans don't care. We've had 6 of them in 2016 and not a single thing happened in any of them. I'm willing to bet they don't return in 2017.
 
A question for anyone who wishes to opine. Since X and Truck races are poorly attended and there are not many viewers from home should the 2 series be merged or run the same schedule and race back to back? Should both series adopt spec racers so, at least in theory, everyone is on level ground?

From what I have read the races are a joke, very few cars/trucks are competitive and they employ gimmicks. Surely something better can be done no?
 
If the Xfinity Series continues with the heat races they MUST shorten the field for the main event. As it currently stands, only 40-42 cars enter every race and that means everyone who starts a heat race automatically advances to the main event. That is not the point of heat races! Heat races are for the drivers who show they can be competitive enough to contend for a win in the main event.

How about limiting the main event to about 25 cars and not allowing provisionals to be used? That would eliminate sandbagging and create hard racing throughout the entire field for the heat races.

I recall Atlanta scheduled both on the same day this year, but I don't know the effects on attendance vs. previous years when they were on Friday and Saturday.

I'd definitely like to see more barnstorming over merging the two. If you hold with the idea that having Cup drivers participate does NOT help lower tier attendance, then having more stand-alone events makes sense. Having all three at the same track may benefit the tracks, but does it help the sport? On the other hand, how many non-Cup tracks are there with the necessary infrastructure to gain a race date? Most of those that have the facilities but don't have at least one race are road courses. I'd love to see more of those but I understand some of the opposition to them.

I'd support spec series for X and Truck over gimmicks like shot clocks and the Chase. On the other hand, it cuts into developing crew chiefs, car chiefs, support specialists, etc. The lower tiers are used to develop more than just drivers.

Really ? I 'm for letting all the sponsors into the race . The drivers do not need additional incentive to drive fast . It's what the do for a living. But if you don't let all of the sponsors in , then what?

My idea is worth trying at least once. All the sponsors were let in yesterday...look at the grandstands and the race ratings. How did that work out?

I understand that you and others think drivers can be made to try harder . And , I guess if they tried harder , then there would be better racing . My theory is , that if I am an owner , I put the hardest charging driver that I can afford , in the best equipment that I can afford and I put him on the track with my sponsor footing the bill . If my sponsor doesn't get his advertising on the track that I don't get to do it again next week.
