Homestead Cup

Well, last year, just 3 points separated Stewart and Edwards going into Homestead.

NASCAR Sprint Cup finale on ESPN gets 2.7 overnight rating, down 27% from last year”

That's what you get when you cross lines in the sand with Bernie Eccelstone. Why in heck have two big racing events in the same country during the SAME time slot as the NFL.

NASCAR not only tried to play with F1 but they choose to start the race during the 4th quarter of most NFL sunday games.

But I guess, ESPN has to do something to try and compete. IMO, they could really maximize their potential if SATURDAY night racing ruled again.

We do three night races right at the end of summer. But in the fall the weather gets cold and ticket sales might suffer.

But screw the ticket sales. Brian makes his money with the TV contracts.

It was on Speed in the United States, so probably microscopic.
What you're saying is exactly what I'd think. I think it's BS to blame the huge drop in the ratings for this years finale @ Homestead on competition with F1 or the NFL. The NFL was there last year. F1, I can't believe that they have that large of an audience in the US that it could have caused any noticeable drop in viewers. The lack of a Tony Stewart/Carl Edwards type tie going into the last week? I'm not buying that either. I would have thought that would have been equaled by the hype surrounding the Gordon/Bowyer news leading into this past weekends race. A week ago people were touting how good that story was for the sport and that NASCAR couldn't have scripted better advertising. I guess that so called fight didn't bring in the viewers as many may have thought.

It sucked that the F1 and Cup races overlapped. Hopefully that won't happen anymore.

Exactly. I know the people who run F1 think that they're the biggest deal in the racing world, but in America, a lot of us are NASCAR fans and they should of gotten out of the way of the Cup race.

An analogy would be like if the NFL played their one annual game in London and they scheduled it during the biggest soccer game of the year.

F1 is by far larger on a world wide basis than NASCAR. Bernie E is not worried at all about what Brian France does.

And Brian is too stupid to make good decisions.
Like signing SPRINT and screwing tons of fans out of great access. SPRINT coverage sucks compared to other carriers. I'm sure this is not helping expand the fan base.
Or how about Brian's PR firm that caters to GOODYEAR instead of the fan.
Or how about all the decision to sell out to the TV networks and give them control of when the race is on and the such. NOT GOOD FOR FANS.

Just for numbers sake:

An estimated 500,000 people tuned into the Speed cable network on Nov. 18 to catch Austin’s inaugural Formula 1 race, according to newly released Nielsen ratings.

The live broadcast from the Circuit of the Americas track had far more viewers than a comparable race that took place last year in Brazil, according to Speed, drawing 40 percent more households, 70 percent more men in the ages 35-54 demographic and 75 percent more men in the ages 18-49 demographic.
Next year’s Austin race, scheduled for Nov. 17, will be shown on NBC affiliates nationwide, including Austin’s KXAN Channel 36.

I cant see Saturday getting much higher ratings, College Football is huge.

College football is huge even in the football emaciated ACC.
