It's been discussed to death how most fans see the Dillon bros as spoiled rich kids who don't deserve their rides. NASCAR is full of nepotism but for some reason the Dillon bros have never gotten the pass from fans that other generational drivers have. Maybe its the cowboy hat, the 3, or dumb **** they say in interviews like Austin said yesterday that he's always been tough because his grandpa took him on hunting trips as a kid.

Harvick and Hamlin have both made comments along the same line but immediately after on track run ins. For those that are involved in the garage how are the Dillon brothers perceived there?

Is there a link to a specific poll to prove this statement or is this just your opinion? You posted it as fact. Just curious.

And by the way the large majority of fans that I saw at the Coke 600 cheered very loud when Austin won.

take me for example all my guys were out of it it was basically impossible unless I get a magical caution that any of my guys had a chance winning the thing personally as I've stated before I think Austin has done a good job and really the guy doesn't bother me I'm pretty indifferent about him. I was definitely happy that he beat out the 18 car.

dumb sh!t they say in interviews like Austin said yesterday that he's always been tough because his grandpa took him on hunting trips as a kid.

How is this a dumb statement? Been on many hunting trips and it requires some toughness.

That's not dumb at all.

Richard Childress also made them work up the ranks, dirt and asphalt. This perception that they were given a ride as some sort of birthright and didn't have to earn anything is complete and utter bull****.

What's funny is that this forum has so many Chase Elliott fans talking about the Dillon boys and last names and sh!t.
That Elliott kid came from nothing. A real rags to riches story. He worked for everything he got, definitely didn't have any help or influence from his old man or his last name. Nothing like them gosh darned Dillon kids.

Bat signal engaged.

I always like the blanket statement of most fans, all fans, everyone, etc..... They never seem to apply to me at all. Like @Johali , I'd like to see that survey.
Same here.

Guess I'm not in the "most fans" group. Doesn't bother me in the least that the Dillon boys are racing for the grandfather.

What I've always wondered in this situation is what people expect Austin and Ty to do. Are they supposed to tell their grandfather to shove the opportunity to make millions of dollars up his ass because they don't want to appear as spoiled rich kids to Bubba sitting at home in the La-Z-Boy held together with duct tape? Everyone that criticizes them would do the exact same thing if they were in the same position and had an easy path into a Nascar ride.

ding, ding, ding ---- we have a winner!

That's my point, in a sport dominated by nepotism why are the Dillons singled out?

I've never liked Austin Dillon because of the lame cowboy hat and just the way he carries himself but I know my only assessment is from limited TV viewing and post race comments from Harvick and Hamlin. I'm legitimately curious as to what other drivers / owners/ crew think of them. Maybe a lot of fans disliking them is just a failure on their marketing team more than anything else.

And maybe not everyone hates them but read the comments on any Dillon article, read this forum, or listen to them heckled during driver intros and it's safe to say they are disliked way more than other legacy drivers.

Nothing resonates with the average blue collar fan like saying you're tough because you went on a few hard hunting trips - something a lot of fans use their only two weeks of vacation on.

Andy pretty much summed up my thoughts.

as a dirt track fan, I saw and followed the Dillon brothers careers way before they hit nascar. hell, I watched when their dad used to race.

when they started shaping their path, they got tied in with shane and dale mcdowell (two classy and quite qualified dirt track veterans) and learned the ropes at the grass roots level.

they were born into a racing family that drew upon experiences to further the careers. take a look at the current crop of nascar stars and tell me who hasn't earned the right.

one last thought based on what I've seen: there have been numerous wealthy families that have thrown unlimited resources towards an heir's racing (or other) career. good for them if they can provide the opportunity. what determines the success of these ventures always come down to talent, or lack thereof.

why the disdain for the Dillon boys while at the same time devoted fandom of Elliott and Blaney, I don't understand.

what I will say is that the talent of the current youth movement has me as excited about the future of nascar more than any gimmick Brain France can come up with.

JMO.

It aint right to hold the silver spooned stetson against him, and he is a decent driver I respect him for that.
But he aint ever going to be my favorite, and I think he will survive my lack of enthusiasm.

None of us are perfect and there will always be someone with a little snark to throw at you if you hang around long enough.
It is a happy day when one learns it all just noise.

But I still think the head first slide is still stupid. Cant a man just enjoy a little judgemental narcissism anymore?

I will say there's been plenty of times where people have made these claims on here against the Dillon brothers. Let's not act like we haven't seen it. Whether it was anyone in this thread or not is another story.

Well the Dillion boys were and still are dirt track drivers so I give them kuddos for that. For some reason I am not really a fan of either, although it was exciting to see the win at the 600. On the amusing side, i really get a laugh when the show Austin and his girlfriend during what seems to be every national anthem when he is racing. They must have some contract or something.

What's funny is no drivers have said Elliott had his ride handed to him because of his last name yet it's been said about the Dillons by other drivers. Maybe Chase just has a better PR team and deliberately keeps a low profile instead of running to the owner when things don't go his way.

Other than Harvick, in a moment of anger, who are you referring to?

Because Kyle Buschs son is not driving yet

Is that it?

I don't know that's why I started this thread. I genuinely want to know what other drivers and crew think of them. A substantial amountn of fans hate them and think they are spoiled rich kids, I want to know if that's reflected in the garage or were Harvick and Hamlin's comments just heat of the moment things and the Dillons just have bad PR staff who haven't been able to rehab their images.

I just watch it on TV and at the track, I have no inside knowledge. I don't remember Dale Jarrett, JR, Elliott, or numerous other legacy drivers getting the same amount of flack as the Dillons.

Well ... the list we know about made it to the plural.

I have no inside knowledge either.

Well, unless we have other drivers and crewmen show up here as members, I don't think we'll ever really know what they think.
And even if they did join, I sincerely doubt they would identify themselves as such.

IDK what most drivers think of each other and, no disrespect meant, but it is not something that is important to me. I doubt the drivers have much time to think about others as they have a lot on their plates without taking on something that doesn't matter.

There are a few posters on here that work in NASCAR and could probably shed some light. I just never liked Dillon because of the lame cowboy hat, then when Ty cried to Childress after his incident with Harvick combined with Harvick's comments made me think it must be true. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe they need a better PR team.

The only reason I personally don't care for AD is because he seems like a Grade A doucheribbon. Nothing against the way he came up. He's a great driver too... I think Ty is better though.
