How are the Dillons perceived in the garage?

listen to them heckled during driver intros
I attend several races every year and have never noticed them being heckled. Maybe a rare drunk here and there. Were you at Charlotte last Sunday night?
A substantial amountn of fans hate them and think they are spoiled rich kids
Again a link to the survey please

Chase Elliott brings a tremendous marketing opportunity to the table ... most of it accrues to who his father was. Assuming sufficient talent, and he has plenty of it, only a fool would squander that. The Dillon kids are in a different situation but it's similar in many ways.

Grandfathers and fathers with law degrees from Harvard have a way of getting their sons and daughters through the right doors. Why wouldn't they? The same thing works for longshoremen, firefighters, peace officers, doctors, teachers, small business owners, farmers and on and on ad infinitum.

It's the way the world works. The idea that NASCAR should somehow be set apart from all of that is not only unrealistic, it's ridiculous.
My dad got me a cleaning job in the cotton mill when I turned 16.

People keep talkin’ the younger one is better.

Last year, head to head, both in “Pop Pop’s” stuff, the older one handily beat the younger one in the junior sedan series.

What I've always wondered in this situation is what people expect Austin and Ty to do. Are they supposed to tell their grandfather to shove the opportunity to make millions of dollars up his ass because they don't want to appear as spoiled rich kids to Bubba sitting at home in the La-Z-Boy held together with duct tape? Everyone that criticizes them would do the exact same thing if they were in the same position and had an easy path into a Nascar ride.

I agree with this and to add
it not like there is a racing gene
any of us put in the same situation would be racing cup

A last name can get you a shot but talent keeps a ride.

Talent can keep you in a ride but obviously that never applied to drivers like Michael Waltrip and Danica Patrick. IMO the main thing today is being able to obtain and maintain sponsors because if they don't like ya it doesn't matter how good you are.

I remember when Danica started in Nascar, she was bigger on local news most day's after a race than the person who won.

It was strange as even good open wheelers often struggled in cup cars let alone someone with the resume of DP so that is why I never understood all the hoopla.

on a side note, espn (back in the Dan Patrick/Keith Olberman days) brought attention to Dick Trickle when he finally arrived in nascar. not that his legacy needed nascar. the guy is/was a legend for his short track exploits, both on and off the track. RIP Mr. Trickle.

I posted some earlier:

Justin Labonte, Jason Jarrett, Kerry Earnhardt, Stedman Marlin, Stephen Wallace, Ross Kenseth........

Having a famous last name is FAR from a guarantee.

I would say that Stephen Wallace was granted more opportunities to blaspheme the racing spirit than any civilian would have got.

Personally I like Austin more than Ty.. but I think Ty could do better in cup than Austin in equal equipment.

Don't Care how the garage perceives them.. I like them both.. but still they're probably somewhere around 10-12 on my favorite driver list lol

bumped into Austin in the garage at Pocono literally he was talking to someone and bumped into me, he was super nice said "sorry buddy didn't see you asked how my day was going to told me there is coke at his hauler in a cooler for my wife and me to help our self" not sure if he meant coke or coke cola lol but nice guy for the 10 seconds. think he was shocked I didn't want a autograph but I am not an autograph person. I personally like Ty and think he is slightly better. I know he is taller lol

It is kind of funny how they take the heat when guys like Lagano and and Chase Elliott are pretty much the same.
