How does everyone like the new Q format?

After 2 weeks now I think its great.....beats the single car runs. I was big time opposed at first.

Still on the fence

I like it.. but I don't like how eventually someone is going to wreck with a slower car... I mean people wreck in qualifying by themselves on occasion... this is a recipe for disaster.

Liking the results so far though :)

Same as above, much quicker to watch, I DVR it. watch it in less than 45 min or so.

Can be great but they have a lot of work to do. The reverse-lemans start is dumb too.

I'm mixed, it was much better today then it was at Phoenix. I think there's some problems with it still. Like someone said in another thread, we might get a short list of drivers for the unlimited and like Sliced said, your going to see slower cars get in a wreck.

They gotta start letting them cool off the cars on pit road.

Once they get the creeper cars off the track it looks like it could be pretty cool.

I hope this is just some experiment thing.

I dont see them letting them regroup then letting them out again so the slow cars will be something they have to deal with for sure.

I'm ok with it.

But as others have said it's only a matter of time before someone drives into a slow car.

Engine builders nightmare and dangerous to boot. Apparently the idiot that dreamed it up has no understanding of race cars at all. If they allow the cooling carts to be used they can salvage the deal, something has got to change IMO
Betting they make major changes very soon

Air flow or a cooling cart are the only other choices to putting around the track, they will hopefully fix it before we lose a driver or two

Martinsville & Dover really don't have an apron to go on for slower cars to get away from the racing line. Looks like someone didn't think too far ahead

like it better .........but work in progress .....for nascar -n- teams.

agree w/ all on slow cars on apron ........a wreck lookin for place ta happen !

seems they don't want cars openin hood for cool kart hook up/etc .......not enuff Q officials maybe ?
external quick disconnect would solve that.
kahne said flat tire change took too long for official's approval . not enuff officials ?

They got enough officials for race day but dont want to pay them an extra days wages to police Brians snafu

Joey ran over the 9 car ------------------- everybody runs over the 9 car

Hell I bet people will be crashing coming into the pits with all the rush to get out of the way.

Gotta say, NASCAR geniuses.

Waiting to see how long it takes for Nascar suits to admit that this was a mistake .

Interesting that , in this case , the two fastest qualifying speeds were recorded by the 1st and 2nd place qualifyers . In future , it will likely happen that the fastest car in qualfying does not get the pole.

I like it , but as stated not being allowed to cool engines is crazy, and when you have 20mph cars sharing the track with 190mph cars it's only a matter of time, someone's going to get hurt.

I'm no engine expert, but even with no tape they still need to cool them down in order to go fast the next time out. Let them cool them on pit road .

They say they wont let them get the cooling machines out bc they're not allowed to open the hood. I don't see that changing any time soon... teams have the choice whether to put tape or not.

If NASCAR wants to qualify this way then they need to do away with the asinine rules. Let them use the cool down machines, seriously what's the big deal? They don't let them change tires cause of cost but they'll let them blow $50,000 motors? Make no sense. Also makes no sense with all the safety advancements to have a 150 MPH speed difference between hot laps and cool down laps. It's a unnecessary risk that shouldn't be taken. They want knock out qualifying, have it all out, just like F1 does. They stole the idea from them anyway so no need to put their own spin on it. :D

They definitely need to step in... these guys are going to take whatever chances they need to in order to get the fast laps in so they wont just stop this by themselves... NASCAR either needs to enforce a minimum speed or let them cool the engines down.. they would have to put an official at every car to make sure that's all theyre doing under the hood but I think they do that already.

I've just scanned all of this without reading every word so this may have been beat to death but my idea is make every race an impound race after qualifying. Park it and start the race with it with zero changes. I think that would solve everything.

I think the cool machines and changing tires should be permitted. Quick connects for the oil and water systems and you must change all 4 tires or none and those tires become the part of your inventory for the weekend. After qualifying the cars are impounded and only minimum changes permitted.

Cant they just get a big ass fan and hook it up to the front grill?

That would help a little but there would be no water circulation. They have all the needed equipment at there disposal to heat and cool the water. Some goofball in a suit said they cant use it. Some of the drivers commented that the new procedure was "the most dangerous thing they had ever done in a race car" A safety oriented organization like Nascar should have forseen the problems with the new format and slapped the crap outa Brian France.

Cant wait too see how many of the mistreated engines decide to explode on Sunday, I saw Denny Hamlins car blowing water at least twice along with several other Toyotas. Oil slicks on a race track cause accidents and alter the outcome of races. Why not avoid stuff like that if possible ??

I know.. its because NASCAR said "they can only do this and that".. so when they asked if they can hook up cooling systems NASCAR said no because theyre not supposed to be able to open the hoods. They'll figure something out .. hopefully before Martinsville.... they may just tell the teams if they don't like it then don't tape it.

They been taping forever to try to get that last ounce of speed and even if they dont tape at all they still got to cool the engine when the car comes off the track, if they dont everything will heat soak and further lower the performance of the car. These engines are being pushed to the absolute limits, no need to create more problems IMO. If they have to compromise the reliability of their cars to get a good starting position then they may as well just skip qualifying and start at the rear. It just aggravates me that they cant use a little common sense when they dream up these new gimmicks. I firmly believe the old saying "if it aint broke DONT fix it" Us older folks are somewhat resistant to change and sometimes changes arent good

Same here. With a few tweaks, it could work OK. Perhaps cooling fans could be allowed on pit road and cooling laps banned. If a team can't afford a high volume radiator opening fan, perhaps they shouldn't be there.

Banning tape would be the easiest way to go.
