Anyone remember when the LA Galaxy brought David Beckham in to increase the American soccer audience?

I don't see this Danica act having any sustainable impact.

I think you're wrong. She'll be as big as Jr, even without winning a race. I for one hope she wins a bunch, and even a championship in either Cup or NW.

19 Top 15 finishes in the Nationwide Series last year? That's not exactly terrible. It's obvious that she loves to race, and the move to NASCAR was her call. I don't think it's a gimmick at all. I mean, I know what some think, that she was just brought in for ratings, but she doesn't exactly suck at racing a car.

It's a gimmick... a pretty girl pretending to be a racecar driver. By the time 2007-2008 rolled around, IndyCar's audience fell back to pre-Danica levels.

At least she's earning her paycheck by driving the racecar, unlike POS Beckham that collected paychecks while sitting on the bench.

Doing better then you could I bet Andy, are you just mad cause someone who is at your local little short track isn't getting a break? Danica is pretty damn good and most of the wrecks she's had in Nascar wasn't her fault, yeah you didn't mention the wrecks but think about it if not for them wrecks she'd have some better finishes, if not for some idiot last year with a shoe she'd have a damn road course win in the NNS series, Danica can wheel a car rather you like to admit it or not, if I remember last year you was supporting her but in typical Andy fashion you've changed sides again. Let me ask you this do you like Kyle or Kurt this season or was that last season?

Why are we starting this crap again? Can we just rename this the Trash Danica Thread and put it up top as a sticky? I mean doesn't this topic ever get old?

Andy loves to bash Danica and Austin all the time and then say the Steven Wallace hate is too much.

Wowzer! Lol I hate the "Danica can't drive" BS that some people spew. It's nothing but pure hatred, because she can obviously wheel a damn car. Most talented? Absolutely not, and she's never claimed to be. Like I pointed out earlier, she had almost 20 Top 15 finished in the Nationwide Series last year, her first full year mind you. If that was anybody else, they wouldn't be saying they couldn't drive. Hell, with the big boys she put up 3 Top 25's in the Sprint Cup last year in 10 races. Impressive? Nah. But it she's she can do alright. She's still learning the cars. She's already done better than most of these open wheel guys that come to NASCAR thinking they can drive in this series.

I think Danica's biggest hurdle will be complacency. She has a ride locked in, and is probably getting cash from NASCAR to come over to their series. It would be easy to lay back and be the best female driver ever to race nascar. If she gets hungry for wins, like I think she will, and works real hard and sacrifices free time to race better, she could be exciting to watch.

Just to be clear, she didn't earn her cup ride on talent or success, but she sure didn't take a ride from anyone. She brought a big name sponsor with her, and will boost ratings. That will make it easier for EVERY young talent to get a sponsor. It's the media hype that wears on me.

But you can probably admit she's at least talented, don't have to like her to admit that lol, that's how I am with some people.

Talented drivers wheel their way to a victory, maybe not every time but more often then not they will find a way to get the job done. She's never wheeled an indycar to victory, she won one race on a fuel mileage gamble that ended up having a race with only 7 cars finishing on the lead lap and she will never wheel any NASCAR series car to victory. Every blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile.

So I guess some idiot throwing a shoe on the track last year was her not having talent right? You can't deny she would have won that race she was kicking everyone's ass in it, a win is a win by the way so that Indycar win is still a win.

Good point, even though the shoe had nothing to do with the rear breaking loose. I think it was a trick rear gone bad, but that's just a guess.

No woman even with a little bit of talent would run over a shoe. They love those things.

Talented drivers win more then 1 race. Wouldn't a talented indycar driver who races in 115 races finish with better stats then 1 win and 7 podiums?

You don't know if she would have won that race or not, there are too many races where a late caution comes out and causes a green, white checkered and we end up getting a different winner then the driver who was dominating the race.

btw I don't like being called an idiot for the perfect aim that I had when I threw that shoe :p

Bad example. NASCAR offers more than just Danica to attract the casual fan, and most often than not has very exciting moments each week.

Soccer not so much. They offered 1 player for one team. The casual fan may have checked out a Galaxy game or two after he was signed, but there was nothing much else to hold their attention. Also the casual fan sure as he'll isn't going to watch a Dynamo game because a player on the Galaxy.

How the fuk is soccer and stock car racing comparative?????
Should result in a flogging for using the two in the same thread.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and, like hockey, doesn't have a large fanbase in America because the average attention span in this country is about 25.3 seconds. People only watch hockey for the fights and NASCAR's attendance is falling because there aren't enough large crashes for the American attention span.

The "lack of fanbase in America" is because soccer sux ass and Americans have a keen sense of the obvious.

I disagree, Soccer and Hockey aren't as popular here cause those sports weren't invented here. The USA as a whole likes "OUR" sports.

Baseball is one of the slowest and most boring sports but it has plenty of fans. Attention spans have nothing to do with it.

I'll just add in another "it's because soccer sucks". So does hockey if that helps any.
