Buddy Bakers' US Marines Pontiac from the 1991 Daytona 500. Long story short with Operation Desert Storm happening at the time R.J. Reynolds decided to honor the armed forces by sponsoring five cars for Speedweeks, one for each branch of the military. Mickey Gibbs was sponsored by the Air Force, Greg Sacks by the Navy, Alan Kulwicki by the Army, Dave Marcis by the Coast Guard and Baker by the Marines.

Remember these? I had a real big slot car track that I could put up and take down in no time.I had a Chaparral too, one of the best toys I ever had as a kid.Along with my Cox dune buggies and airplanes. And of course a BB gun.

I had a huge layout in my cellar as a kid, with trains running through it, hours of fun with it, right through highschool.

Magna Traction rules! I found out I was getting a slot car track for Christmas accidentally(wink wink I would never go on a mission looking for them)went down to the hobby shop and bought an extra car. What a selfish little brat I was.Its funny I have always felt guilty about it.But I got much better as an adult and now would rather give than receive.I love to watch kids open presents.

Well I don't see the selfishness of it, ya never could have enough cars. I bought the kids Aurora set down the street for 20 bucks, he couldn't keep them running haha. He had all kinds of stuff. I guess I should have taught him how to work on them, but the thought never came to me. Kids can be greedy little animals sometimes. :D

Thought this guy need to be here :D

  • Neil “Soapy” Castles has the most starts in #86 with 95 between 1958-1966. Neil Castles was an “also-ran” of the old days who once once found himself having an uncharacteristically good day. According to “American Zoom” by Peter Golenbock, he had lapped Curtis Turner, but the flagman apparently did not believe it, for he kept giving Castles the move-over flag to let Turner around him. As Castles told the story: “The starter kept doing this, and I was getting real mad, so I just picked up my gun and when I come by the stand the next time I took aim and shot that flag out of his hand.”

I gave my track to the kid next door but he was really too young to appreciate it.I wish I still had it.I have been looking online at some sets for my grand kids(yea right) I have found an AFX set you can make 4 lanes or 2 and like 16 different tracks. Its like $260.00 but you get a lot of stuff.

that's a big set. It has the magnet cars I believe, but some have a three speed transformer . You can still buy thunderjet type cars with a removable magnet or not, magnatractions also new from AutoWorld and Ebay is full of Aurora stuff.. The quality isn't like it was back in the day, bodies are better but the motors need some fiddling with .
