How many race's have you been to?

I have been to a few now NASCAR though

2008 Honda Indy 300 - Homestead
2008 Rolex Sports Cars - Homestead
2008 Indy Lights Miami 100 - Homestead

2004 12 Hours of Sebring

I still want to go to the Indy 500 since I live in Indiana now im probably gonna buy a season ticket next year so I can go to the Indy 500, Brickyard 400, and US Motogp Race

You need to narrow it down some, for instance "Nascar Sprint, Nationwide, Truck" or Arca or Indycar or DIRT for example. I imagine there's members on the board who have been to Hundreds of races if you include all series.

I went to a lawn mower race one time

One Arca Race at Atlanta in what I think is still the closest finish in history(even if its a finish cause of rain it was a .001 seconds finish)

Two Busch(was that at the time) races at Atlanta(one of which had an Iroc race with it)

One Truck Race at Atlanta

and then a Cup Race at Talladega(got to see Jr win)

then when I was younger and so a few of them Thursday Summer races at Atlanta

I went to my first NASCAR race in 1967 while in Jr. High School (yes, I am an Old Fart). That was at Riverside Raceway. I went twice per year (Feb and Nov) almost every year thereafter till they shut the place down.

I have been to Fontucky every year since that track opened but I stopped going to the CUP Races and just went to see Busch and/or Trucks.

I absolutely love going to Sonoma and I also regularly visit TMS and Chicagoland Speedway. Add in Vegas, Phoenix and the old Ontario track and I would have to put the number in the hundreds.

I have also been to the Long Beach Grand Prix for every one of the 36 races there and used to go to the ASCOT dirt track with my old man.

I would have been a driver, except Mom said NO! when Dad wanted to buy me a Quarter Midget when I was 6 or 7. LOL

Mom is always the one who says no haha same thing happened here around age 8

I have been a NASCAR fan since 1995 but didn't get to a race until my wife, then girl friend, bought me tickets to martinsville for spring 2008..since then I have been to:

M'ville - Spring 08, Winner: Hamlin; Spring 09 - Winner: Jimmie Johnson; Fall 09, Winner - Hamlin; Fall 10, Winner: Hamlin

Bristol - Night Race 08, Winner: Carl Edwards; Spring Race 10, Winner: Jimmie Johnson; Night Race 10, Winner: Kyle Busch

I really like the racing at M'ville, but I am not a Hamlin fan AT ALL and got tired of spending money to go watch him win. I hope to go back to the Night Race at Bristol next year....just am gonna hate to pay those ticket prices! lol

I think you qualify as a Senior Old Fart :D

I went to my first NASCAR race before it was Winston Cup, Darlington was my first race the old Southern 500. I've been to all the current Cup tracks except Watkins Glen,Sonoma,California, and Phoenix.

My mom said okay when Dad put me in a Micro Midget a long time ago, since then I've raced Dirt Late Models, Asphalt Modifieds, Dash and Nascar Sportsman ( now Nationwide) I fish now.

I have no idea.

My father and brothers took me to the local short tracks in the early 60's. I went to several cup races as a teenager and for the past thirty years I have been attending between four and six races a year. Two years ago I actually went to eight different tracks.

To this day, I enjoy the local short tracks just as much as the cup races. Winchester, Eldora and Salem are my favorites.

I really don't know the total --- I know the Cup races number between 45 to 50. But there's loads of truck and N'wide races, too.

Then there are the 4yrs of local short track races back in the 70s. LOL
Almost forgot the 2yrs of straight-liner in the late 60s.

Guess I qualify as a Senior Old Fart, too. ROTFLMAO

One truck race at Richmond

A pair of IRL races at Richmond

A Winston West race at Sears Point in '80 or so

A good number of World of Outlaws sprint and late model races, along with the WoO World Finals for the last 4 years (since it's inception)

The Chili Bowl for the last 6 years

Countless weekly races at local tracks.

I'm originaly from South Carolina but believe it or not the first race I ever went to was Sears Point back in 1994. I was stationed at Travis AFB, CA & since I didn't yet have a car, I offered to buy a buddy of mine who wasn't even a NASCAR fan a ticket if he'd give me a ride to the race which he gladly did. I'll never forget the very first time I hear "Gentlemen Start Your Engines" in person & the sound of the cars firing up. Irvan dominated that day in Davey's #28, Sr was third and not happy with his finish at all. Most of my military career has been overseas but when I am stateside for any reason, I always try to go to a race. My List of events attended:

1994 - NASCAR Winston Cup Save Mart 300 - Irvan
1994 - CART Toyota Monterey Grand Prix - Paul Tracy

Forgot I been to a few IHRA events in Palm Beach. Can't remember the dates and winners I was only like 12

Forgot, also attended an either IHRA or NHRA sanctioned event at Whichita Falls Texas back in 2003 & have also been to a few Monster Truck & Tractor pull events as well...

If y'all wanna include NHRA events I have to add all of the eliminations I attended at Pomona, Lions Dragway (deceased) and Orange County International Raceway (deceased). That would add at least 2 dozen to my total...

I quit counting long ago. We've been going to four or five Cup races a year for many years now as a family of four. Before kids, my wife and I went to six or more a year. The two of us, sans kids, still try to take in one a year during the Chase and that's mainly been Martinsville. Many times we'll attend whatever companion events are taking place. We just got back last night from a four race weekend including Wednesday's Truck race so they can add up pretty quickly.

Good thread though. It's interesting to see how many opinions are being shaped on what their exposed to simply through television vs. the track experience. There's nothing like the experience of the NASCAR race weekend @ the track. Like someone else here mentioned a while back, it's much like a Super Bowl each and every week at these venues. There's so much going on in and around the track it'll make you head spin.

The television broadcast of the race will never do this sport justice. You're only seeing what they choose to show you. While ESPN, etc..... is focused on that car with a three second lead, I'm watching the battle for 9th or 19th or whatever. There's always good racing going on all over the track. For those of you that go, do you record the event as well so you can watch it later? I do. I try to watch the race from the home viewers perspective and it's no where near the same.

been to bristol 60+ times
the rest compined at least another 80+
been to all tracks at least once including , (the rock and north wilksboro) except kansas, chicago, watins glen, kentucky, and california.

Nothing like the battle for 34th a Dover with cars 3 laps down and half of them crazy loose about to wreck:beerbang:

Races

When I was a liddle fella my brother took me to the ole Charlotte Fairground Speedway and the only name I remember is Buck Baker...................musta been the early 50s..............I thought Buck Baker was a cool name the reason I can remember it.

I would love to go to more tracks - especially Charlotte and Bristol. Some day...

And if I attend a race I always try to record it. Nothing can compare to the live experience but the TV broadcasts bring lots of info that can be missed while at the track.

I like most racing... dirt and asphalt late models are my favorite. Can't judge IndyCar yet, I'll let you know what I think of those lean mean racing machines about this time next week :growl:

I like to do this as well. It gives you two different perspectives of the race...I am glad to hear someone else does it...I thought I had a problem! lol

I have not been to a Bristol Cup race, but when we race at the dragstrip there, I ride the pit scooter around the nascar track sometimes. I have went up in the top of the grandstands, and it is so cool looking down on the track . I think that would be a race I would love to see.:)

I've never been to a race, but I'll get to one before I kick. I won tickets fro Kez earlier this year, but I couldn't make a race this year so I donated them to his CFF foundation. I don't know any NASCAR fans here in NY.

Daytona first time 66 or 67 remember a number 13 Chevelle was there
been back probably 8 or 10 times but not always for 500 the best racin IMO were the then 125's

Atlanta 10 or 15 times

Talladega 1 time that was enough

Many many bull rings saw Bill Elliott before he could spell NASCAR
During 70 and 80 went twice a week

NHRA spring nationals 2 times

Many other drag strips

But I haven't been to many in years got tired of the games NASCAR wants to play so i'll watch and keep my money

FIrst stock car race, Sorrento Speedway, Morristown, NJ, 1948. I was 12 years old.

1957, owned and drove in stock series at several local tracks in northeast NJ, (Harmony and McAfee) PA (Stroudsburg, Beech Lake, Honesdale, Lehighton, Nazareth) and NY (White Lake, Grahamsville).

First NASCAR race, Old Bridge, NJ, 1958.
First Daytona 500, 1961. The next and our last Daytona 500, 1993.

In 1987 I started helping Jimmy Means, doing public relations work and following the circuit until 1993. I was asked to work the pits on race day but politely declined being too chicken to go over the wall.:D
My bride and I have been to most modern day NASCAR Sprint Cup tracks with the exception of those coming into the series after 1993.

I always had an interest in open wheel and Indy cars, but not as much as NASCAR. I follow sprint car racing, preferably without wings, (Pittman races with a wing) and my son is an associate sponsor for the Heffner Racing #27 out of Northampton, PA, driven by Daryn Pittman so I try to see them race whenever I can. Next time will be November at Charlotte.
How many NASCAR races have I been to? I do not know but it is a bunch. I recall some, like the February it snowed in Richmond and the 1993 Atlanta race that had the temperature drop forty degrees and a major snow and ice storm. That race was postponed.
The last Sprint Cup race I attended was Martinsville in 2002. Several NASCAR truck races in recent years as they are the best to watch these days.
FWIW, my favorite tracks were/are, Richmond, North Wilkesboro, Martinsville, Bristol, Rockingham, Texas World Speedway, and Watkins Glen. Actually any road course and track less than one mile with the exception of TWS. Good memories of TWS but maybe it is because it has the same mailing address as where I went to college. ;)

Nice to see that there are Farts older than me on this forum, Whizzer!! :D:D

Racing in the 50's must have been a real hoot! My dad and his brother owned a wrecking yard in Gardena when I was a kid. It was right across the street from the old ASCOT Raceway (RIP, old girl). All of the "jalopy" drivers would scour the numerous wrecking yards for parts to build and repair their racecars.

I can still remember the smell of the place and the sounds of racing on that exquisite 1 mile clay oval.

World Of Outlaw Sprint Cars
2001 & 2010: Paducah (I've been to one of two much just not sure the years)
2004: Talledega & Ky Lake

If we are talking strictly NASCAR, I have probably been 30-35 times, mostly at Bristol. I have been to Atlanta 4 or 5 times, most back in the 70's when I was a kid. And I went to Charlotte for the 600 in 2000. Everything else has been dirt tracks and I couldn't begin to count how many of those I have been to.

O.K. I have not been to anywhere as many as you guys have.... however I am a little limited in distance.... as the travel is somewhat a killer.

I have been to the Daytona 400 in July 07, both nationwide and sprint (or was it nextel). Also been to Phoneix in 09 both nationwide and sprint.

However I can add to the list something that others may not have experienced. In Australia in the mid/late 90's when a round of the indycar was run on the Gold Coast they were also having Nascar races here (for memory they were exibition races). I saw these for a few years when they were run. However even being a exibition race on a tight street circuit it was awesome... the sound...... oh that is just pure music.

That would have been great to see! NASCAR also did a couple oval races in Australia - but I think that they used right-hand drive cars, if I remember correctly...

Have you been to any of the V8 Supercar races? I am already making plans to go to the premeire (2013, I think) V8 event at the new track in Austin, TX!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE that series!! And I wish that more races were shown on TV here. Marcos acts as the "host" whenever SPEED broadcasts the races - but it's always hit-or-miss as to when they are aired.

I had no idea the V8 Supercars were coming to Texas! I used to watch all of the v8 races a couple of years ago by downloading torrents. Have not had time these days, so i dont read any of their news incase i get a chance to catch up on the old races. Thanks for posting that, i'm pretty excited about that. I'll make sure to be at that one! Still want to go a track of theirs in Australia or NZ though.

V8's on Texas will be awesome if you guys will love it, I've been to heaps of v8 supercar races. If you want links on how to keep more up to date pm me dont want to lead this off topic.

I know some great sites to get all of the race broadcasts the day after they happen, just dont have time anymore to watch tv. Really love watching the series when i have the time though. One of my favorite series for sure.
