How to make the stock car more stock?

I really wish NASCAR would let the grill of the car be an actual grill & not a lame painting. It's annoying to see teams clean the "grill area" directly below the grill where the true air intake is. Also, I'd hoped the exhaust wound be placed in the right spots. It looks ridiculous to have the rear pipes painted on the back of the SS and the real pipes infront of the rear tires. Just little things like these would help bring the stock back in stock cars & let the audience relate a tad more. What is y'all's opinion?

The first thing they can do is never pretend a cup car is a 57' Chevy again. :p

What they really need to do is stop with the stupid stickers. It's 2014 and they are phucking racecars. No longer are they stock. We need to get over it. The headers don't need to change, the fake exhaust tips do.

Headlights I can deal with. Tail lights, unless they work, you're pushing it. Fake exhaust pipes? GTFO.

I guess I'm going backwards with what you're saying Checkers.. Unless they completely go back to the drawing board and buy these cars from the factory, these cars are going to stay this far from stock and I'm fine with that. God forbid they neuter these cars like F1 did to theirs to make them seem 'more stock'.

I think I get what chex was saying. I too, long for the good ole days where the cars actually looked alot like what you find in the show room. Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday seems pretty far from the truth when that car on track looks nothing like whats in the show room.

I do not know how they would do it but even if it slowed them down some, it might make so kick butt racing. Plus it would be cheaper for teams too

I think the Gen-6 car is as stock looking as stock cars have looked in about 30 years. The Nationwide cars still look awful IMO, but the Sprint Cup cars look pretty good.

Everybody wants a stock car , but nobody wants their driver to be stuck with the slowest car of the three manufacturers . We've been down that road before and drivers , teams , and fans never stopped whining and crying.

They look good, they race good, and the ignition switches work. Now next year they'll be a underpowered Nationwide car. I see enough stock cars on the interstate, I want to see race cars.

Stock Toyota's would go when you want to stop, and Chevy's would stop when you want to go. Sure would be the key to a Ford championship.

Too true...its like that with any sport. I'm guilty of it myself.
The only thing I have to complain about is that Harvick and Kyle won before Joey lol.. but that has happened every other year too.. I just don't like those guys and a buddy of mine is a big Harvick fan.

It'll be 2015 not next year... and about 13-15 Hp less not 150... but yeah I agree otherwise lol
2015 is next year lol.

Although Pemberton declined to specify how many horsepower NASCAR is looking to cut, sources familiar with the discussions said the reduction would be in the neighborhood of 75 to 100 horsepower. Currently, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series engines make about 860-900 horsepower at most tracks.

Run what you brung is the purity of true stock car racing and someone somewhere should bring it back again.

Yeah, I just don't think it's ever going to be close to the way it was. They're purpose-built race cars now and they always will be. Otherwise, there's always touring car racing.

Also, I HATE that these cars cannot spin out in the grass without destroying the front end of the car because the splitter acts as a 185 mph shovel. Even cars who run through the grass to avoid a wreck get the nose ripped off because of it. Wish they took the duck bill off.

Now that is a problem that needs addressing. Seems a bit better this year though.

NASCAR = No Actual Stock Cars Are Represented. Been that way for a long time now.

I remember back in the mid-1980s when it was a big story because Darrell Waltrip's car had an actual stock rear panel and bumper. Think it was at a short track, possibly North Wilksboro. The flap was that Junior Johnson's team was over-taxed, but the real reason was it was a partially re-skinned car that had been successful there before.

I'm not a fan of the cookie-cutter / just apply stickers cars. But at least make the stickers resemble four-door cars when you can only buy the real car with four doors. It'd be a hoot if they had to run front wheel drive if the real cars only have front wheel drive.

Maybe NASCAR needs to bring back the Modified Division name. Today's cars sure are much more modified than stock.

All the cars are billboards so a few car ID decals don't matter. NASCAR was forced into a common shape because in the past the teams complained about brand X having an aero advantage over brand Y. NASCAR calls them Gen 6 but I call them NAScars - the current car is fine with me.

If you want to see real stock cars race, watch the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series (http://www.imsa.com/series/sportscar-challenge).

You can always go to your local short track and watch the Mini-Stock, Street Stock, U-CAR or Hornet class races.

I do believe this is Cole Whitt's Grand Daddy from back in the day, just a little before my time though.

The Nationwide Camaros have door handle decals. Ridiculous.

It's really not hard. Check out this Pirelli World Challenge car. It doesn't happen in NASCAR because Brian France doesn't make money off it.

There's no way they'll go back toward a stock chassis, but it would be cool if they had to run variants of engines that were available in the current year's model of car. I'd say maybe control things through maximum fuel flow and let teams go nuts on whatever they wanted as long as the block design and dimensions remain the same as what is offered in their represented production car. Power adders like turbos and superchargers, go ahead, you'd just be limited by the fuel flow, which should keep maximum power relatively close. Plus, open up the transmission gearing to a 6 speed.

Yeah well that or they could just NOT drive through the grass.....

Easier said than done. Like Chex said, sometimes the grass is the only place to avoid a wreck. And there's just no reason running over some grass should have the same result as nosing a wall.

Hopefully with the horsepower reduction they'll be able to reduce dependence on aerodynamic grip too.

They've always gone fast. They just haven't always been a bunch of Roombas sucked to the ground.
Well they haven't gone this fast before really. Fastest q lap ever on a 1.5 by Harvick and fastest lap ever run at Martinsville by Joey. I get what ur saying... but I don't see it changing.. best way to avoid it is to not go in the grass.... also Im sure the wet grass didn't help.
