Since Dale has been in the #8 how many drivers have won more races then he has? And why he has such a huge fan base and the drivers that have won more have fewer fans.
What are these folks fans OF?
Please don't read into this that I am a Dale hater...I am NOT! I just think there are 10 or 12 drivers more deserving of more fans than he is..

I'm sure a number of drivers have won more races than him. Just as I'm sure large numbers of his fans were originally Big E fans and took Junior after Dale's death --- after all, his last name is Earnhardt.

I'm sure there are more "deserving" drivers of huge fan support, but one thing that sets Junior apart, IMO, is his personality. He just comes across as a down-to-earth, ordinary guy. Unlike the Busch brothers who came on like they thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Now, don't assume that I'm a one driver fan ---- I have huge respect and admiration for many, many of the drivers, and happily root for them all on Sunday. I'm an equal opportunity fan --- I root for everyone. :D
 
Personality counts a lot towards having fans. Having said that, there are not many drivers that have as many wins as Jr that came into nascar at the same time or within shouting distance.

I am not a big fan of Jimmy Johnson (and no, I don't dislike him), but I do believe he is one of the most underrated drivers in nascar and one of the winningest drivers recently.

All have top teams behind them. I'd say Earnhardt Jr. is about in the middle considering the time in Cup and his results. As to popularity I just don't understand why his father's fans migrated to him. (I know I didn't). He's nothing like his father.
If anything you could argue that Harvick has underperformed and Johnson has over-performed.

And everybody knows who spotted Johnson and thought he was a talent.
 
Number of wins has nothing to do with backing a driver. I was a Bill Elliott fan long before he won a race. There's quite a few drivers I like right now but I haven't yet found one that I give my full backing to yet.
 
I meet JR, maybe he was haing a bad day, but i just got an bad impression that has not wore thin yet. He seems down to eart on tv, but when i meet him he was just there, did not look at me or shake my hand.
 
Is the question why does Dale Jr have so many fans? Dale Jr was "born at the right time" or as horrible as it sounds his dad "died at the right time" to help his career (I'm not being insensitive, hear me out). Dale Jr was really coming on to the scene when his dad was killed. So the first group of Jr fans love him for his last name. It was also the same time NASCAR got their new TV contracts and a new group of fans were just getting into the sport and looking for a 'favorite driver.' Why not choose the charasmatic young kid who tragically just lost his dad? I think FOX and DW helped light this fire. Now it goes without saying that Dale Jr would choose having his dad over having his huge fan base, but I think logically speaking it was a big help to him winning over fans. That's my opinion and I'm not a Junior hater either.

Do you mean by constantly talking about him and devoting a third of the broadcast showing him regardless of how he was doing?
Is JPM the new Lil'E in this regard?

And I've been looking myself. I'd like to know every driver that has won a race since he started driving and where he places in the whole mix.

I don't know why I didn't find those lists. From looking at them I guess smoke, Jeffy and Jimmy would be on the list I'm thinking about.
