Well not your President, but President of our new company. We do underground and aireral work for cable/power/phone/gas/ect companys. It's got me pretty busy and on the run. But guess thats a step up from when this 16 year old high school student joined almost 10 years ago!

Thanks Bucky!! Right now we are working for NewWave but they were bought out by Time Warner. NewWave has their own techs, but once TW takes over all their work is contracted out, so we will be in the door to do alot of work and bring in some good money!

I bought some trucks, trenchers, and boreing mechine from the bank from a buniness some of my family had, but they did what you warned me of. They spent a more money on crap then they brung in. One year they had 20+ vans, trucks, bucket trucks on the road and made 1.4million. a few years later the bank had everything. I am going to avoid that. I will earn my pay, more so then just siting on my ass. I am going out tomorrow with the bucket truck and learn how the ropes and how to do everything. Right now i have around 5 people working for me. So hopefully once Time Warner takes over we can get more people working and make some money. I just want to get the company going now and get the bank paid off. Im not worried about my pay as much as keeping the workers and the bank happy. My time will come once i pay my dues and learn everything.

it sounds like you've got a good plan to make your business successful. :) i can't believe you're working for newwave. they just bought out our local cable company (avenue broadband) last month. nothing on their home page about them being bought out by time warner. so far i'm not crazy about newwave. if they have been bought out by time warner i have a feeling i'll like them even less. :(

I sure hope so! Everything is shaping out good so far. just got to remember "In America, 1st you get the the money, then you get the power, then you get the women" :D;)

A few years ago NewWave bough Charter in my area for like 4 million. Not long ago Time Warner bought NewWave for 100 million, TW takes over the 1st of next month. I don't think all of NewWave was bought out. Just the area around me. Im not sure how it all it works, kind of confusing. But who ever needs the work we will do it. I have MediaCom cable and internet.

interesting, avenue broadband bought charter here (illinois) a few years ago, then newwave just bought avenue broadband. where's the bookie that's taking bets on time warner buying newwave in this area? i could use some extra money. :)

I don't have any info, but if I hear I'll pass the info along to you, just beside to send some profit my way! Lol.

What part of IL? We have a job is Southern IL to do for Newwave I think it's in Anna.

We are also talking to mediacom, galaxy (who someone bought I think) and trying to get in the door at CommCast. But we will also do phone, power, water, gas, pretty much anything that needs to be done.

lol, there are a few around here but many more farther north. some people say the closer you get to chicago, the more it sucks. wind that is. :)

I've travled all over IL and have seen a crap load of windmills. Hardly seen many turning but ive seen enough that would cause a dust bowl if they would spin! haha.

Good luck, Lappy! You are using the same business plan my bride and I used when we started in 1964. By 1987, I was just over fifty years old and my bride and I decided we should keep one business, semi-retire and start doing the things we never did in our earlier years.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes before you start complaining about your employees, insurance, general expense and headaches of being self-employed. ;)

I lived the Golden Rule, was always honest, and never tried to, "keep up with the Joneses." Things will work out and one day you can enjoy the rewards that come as a result of the aggravation of being self-employed.
I know you'll do just fine. Good luck!

Thanks Whizzer! 1964, is the year dad started racing. Sounds like you had a good plan yourself! I think once Time Warner takes over things will pick a lot more. So maybe by the time I am 50 i'll be able to take the same route as you did.

Already have had a few headaces, but guess thats part of starting out.

Just looking forward to seeing what will happan over the next few months and years.

Congratulations lappy!! Best of luck in your business ventures and your future successes!
