I can't remember when this race was...

My memory is fading on me and I was hoping to find a video on YouTube pertaining to this memory, but wording it on Google or YouTube is troublesome. Maybe you guys can help me out.

This has probably happened multiple times, but I remember a night race where on the last lap someone had ran out of gas and they were pushed, on purpose, past multiple cars to win the race. At the same time, the announcers were being loud (which I would be, too) as it was happening.

For some reason, I'm thinking it was Dale, Jr. (probably wrong) who ran out of gas. Also, I'm thinking this was late 90's / early 2000s.

Do any of you recall this night? If not, has there been any races where drivers were pushed to win?

Iowa 2011 is the closest thing I can think of

I think....Dale Jr ran out of gas at the World 600 fourth turn last lap, Harvick in an RCR car drove by for the win (2010ish).

For as long as I can remember, pushing a car on the last lap is illegal, and would result in an automatic penalty. The only two incidents I can recall anything close to that happening was a laps down Rick Mast pushing an idling Harry Gant for a few laps at Talladega before turning him loose on the last lap to win under his own power circa 1992, and a laps down Dale Earnhardt pushing Rusty Wallace around Pocono under caution during a rain shower until the red flag came out. When the race was called, Rusty was declared the winner. Seems like that was 1991.

This definitely isn't the one you're referring to, but perhaps it might help jog your memory. It sounds a little similar.

In 2011 Kevin Harvick won the Coca Cola 600 on fuel mileage after turning off his engine and being pushed by his RCR teammates during the previous caution flag so that he could save fuel.
