Honestly Mike Joy is just as sickening as everyone else at fox. Michael Waltrip is by far the worst though.

I like the Fox crew a lot more than I do NBCs. Mike Joy is a joy to listen to and does a great job. I like the Waltrips, DW has great insight on what it's like to be a driver although Jeff's is more relevant to these car and Mikey is just fun. Can't even really tell you who does the NBC races, I know they have a Burton in the booth that's it, also Parker Kligermen in the pits.

I have to agree. Mike Joy is great to listen to as well as Gordon. DW is a cheerleader, but I like the way he calls the race. NBC's crew is pretty awful to listen to, honestly. Burton and Letarte are boring and Rick Allen gets hyped up about every little thing.

Mike Joy is an honest role model to me and I always wanted his job but mostly his talent, love him to death.

I personally like Jeff Burton and Steve Letarte. They don't cheerlead but they're not emotionless drones, and they pass along a lot of good information without being overly technical or condescending. Agreed on Rick Allen though. He gets over excited about everything. It's kind of exhausting to listen to. The Waltrips drive me absolutely insane, DW more than Mikey but I'd rather not hear either of them call a race again. Joy and Gordon are great though. I wish they left Larry in the booth and replaced DW instead

I liked Mike Joy as a pit reporter more than a play by play guy. The rest if the Fox crew is terrible in my opinion.

I wish Ricky Craven would get more time on the booth.

The commentators today sure make me miss Bob, Benny, Ned, Neil and Buddy.

Never mute a race though, wouldn't want to tune out the sound of the cars. Still blast it when Crank It Up comes around.

In the new digital age, why not have an audio channel that is only track/stadium noise? These companies are way overpaying the worst part of any sports telecast. What started out as one guy giving basic play by play, and a second guy only opening his mouth if a play was worth analyzing. Has devolved into a chaotic mess of non stop noise. Play by play commentators have become color commentators.

Another thing I hate is going to races and having mrn blasting over the loud speakers. No other sports does this and for good reason, it is annoying. Imagine going to a football game and having to listen to joe buck, Phil Simms, or collinsworth's dumb ass opinions at 80 decibels. Sad thing is the local pa guy at Daytona, who comes on during mrn's 'commercials every 90 seconds' breaks, is far more informative and easier to listen to.

Other sports don't do it because it'd be distracting to the players. Auto racing is loud enough that the guys in the car can't hear it (the audience can barely hear it for that matter). I don't have an opinion either way.

Thank Jeff Burton. Honestly, when he was driving I liked the guy but he's almost intolerable now. I see there are people in this thread who like him, and that's great. This is why there is chocolate and vanilla but I think he gets paid by the word sometimes. I suppose that's what people want and I'm not muting anything.

There were posts in another thread about pre-race morning blah-blah but believe me my wife (for one) LOVES this stuff. She wants to watch every minute of the pre-race "fol-de-rol" as she calls it. There's something for everybody. I used to laugh at Mikey's pit antics and I always thought the drivers just played along with his nonsense but people like this stuff. It's all cool really. I get as much fun from watching my wife get all worked up about things that are said as I do watching a race. She's all in. It's hilarious, and I'm sure she's not the only one who gets so worked up which is why they do it. It's a business and they know what keeps people engaged.

For NASCAR , that isnt likely going to happen with him still working for ESPN:laugh:
I forgot that they don't do Xfinity races anymore, haven't watched many. He's better that any analyst on Fox, that's for sure.

Because other sports have enough home games to justify hiring a full time in-house announcer.

Your hearing must be phenomenal. On those occasions I take my headphones off, I can't hear the loud speakers over the car engines. I hope you keep it.

Daytona and talledega, and to a slightly lesser extent, pocono and Indy. You end up with 3 seconds of engine noise and 50 second of mrn's dumbass commentary. It is annoying when the cars are on the back stretch, single file, and the mrn guys are yelling and acting like the most thrilling moment in sports, ever, is happening. When all you need to know is who is having troubles, an occasional rundown of the running order, and whether a driver that just pitted, is on schedule.

Less is better.Dead air is relaxing. The whole reason I go to a sporting event is for the environment, and the thrill of when my favorite team/driver wins. Not bull crap commentary I could have gotten while fishing in my boat.

To be fair, NASCAR is also the only sport where the ENTIRE competition disappears from your field of vision for an appreciable portion of the event.

At this point any announcer that doesnt scream, hyperventilate, or go over the top theatrics is great by me. I would prefer Kimi Rak(abc... sp?) over Dave Moody.

So Mike Joy much better than most imo.

You have one. Disconnect the center speaker ... the commentary will disappear.

Welcome to the hifi age. You're late.

For me Nascar play by play is easy to mute as even though the cars are going fast when the camera is showing a group of cars together they don't seem fast. Maybe I am wrong but it seems easy to get a sense of what is going on just by the video portion of the broadcast although if something unusual is happening it does pay to un-mute for 30 seconds or so.

DW and Larry Mac have ruined what could have been some great calls if they had just let the play-by-play man make the call.

The doofus that does the NBC play by play needs a double dose of downers before signing on.
I don't know where rick Allen came from, but like joe buck, his voice and mannerisms are grating. And like joe buck doing the World Series, it seems like he has no clue what he is looking at.

Rick Allen is fine. He single handedly carried the Truck Series broadcasts on SPEED for years.

The one I miss in the booth, besides Benny Parsons (it's been 10 years already since he passed:() is Wally Dallenbach on NBC and TNT. Dude was criminally underrated in the booth. He carried NBC through their final year when Benny Parsons was sick and Bill Weber was blind.

I wish Ricky Craven would get more time on the booth.

I used to think the same thing, but I believe that Ricky is a studio guy. The booth does not provide enough time for his thoroughly analytical analysis IMO. He is brilliant.

The duo callin’ the sports car thing Sunday.

The leader got dumped ‘n they went stark-ravin’ mad yellin, “TOUCH!”

That was the last of the audio here.
