I have to agree with Junior on this

i have alway hated the plate races. i think this quote should be echoed by every driver:

"If this is what we did every week, I wouldn't be doing it," he said after finishing 21st. "I'll just put it to you like that. If this is how we raced every week, I'd find another job."

I HATE to say it(it actually hurts) but maybe it's time to bring the 2x2 racing back. I hated that racing but at least it's less likely we have a 20 car wreck. Every race someone will set off a big wreck sooner or later.

I disagree with him. He's no longer a fan of those tracks because he's no longer winning at those tracks. He wants to split the cars up about bit more? That's what mile and a half tracks are for. Us fans like plate races for the excitement and the close racing...not for the crashes. This is simply a case of an upset driver who's championship hopes were ruined due to a crash. He'll start liking these races again next time he wins one of them.

I like plate races just not the big wrecks, I see no fun in that.
I was listening to the 88 radio and after that LeTarte asks Dale if he was ok. Jr. came back with yea I guess so, and I don't know how many more of those hits I can take.

And I would find another sport to watch!

I repeat myself, I am a race fan, I enjoyed todays race like I do all of them from start to finish and the only time I enjoy a wreck is when someone who, in my opinion, deserves to be in one after wrecking a lot of people but only if they come out of it unhurt.

I completely agree with Jr on this. The fact that a "race" at Talladega is in the Chase is ridiculous. I'll reserve comment regarding my opinion on anyone who thought that the finish to today's race was paramount to exciting racing.

I think you are way off base.

How so? Look at Kenseth and Gordon...they had no complaints about the race today. These large crashes have always happened at Talladega and Daytona for as long as I can remember. What reason would Jr have to start hating them other than the fact that he's not winning them? Don't get me wrong...I wasn't a fan of the wreck at the end either. That doesn't mean that I think we need to break up the pack racing. If we did that, then everyone would claim that the races were "boring."

YEP!

I remember last year, he whined and cried endlessly about the tandem drafting and said they should bring the pack racing back.

The ONLY problem today was the insanity of having a 2 lap GWC at a plate track. Then again, if Tony hadn't tried to block, it may have been OK.

Jr did take a HUGE hit to his door by that idiot LaBonte, so I'm sure he had a near death experience there.

LaBonte is a fool because he had checked up on the apron, then decided to throttle up as if the yellow never came out.

I agree with Jr. Dega used to be my favorite race to watch NA$CAR needs to go back into the past and set the cars up like they were set up back in the mid 90s. Like Jr. said the NA$CAR engineers can figure it out.

I just think you're assessment of the reason Jr no longer likes plate racing is extremely simplistic and short sighted.

I wouldn't say extremely simplistic. If Jr won the last 4 at Talladega, including this one, he would have given a totally different opinion. Why do I say that? Dale ain't no fool.

OK. Go over the top and give us your assessment of why Jr no longer likes the big tracks. I am all ears.

It reminds me of what another guy named Earnhardt used to say about plate racing, even if he was probably the master at it in my opinion.

Read the damn article. It's the style of racing. None of them like it because they know it's a farce. But hey, why take the driver's word for it when we can home up with our own stupid theories.

It's easy to say you don't like a certain style when you aren't winning. I'm sure Kenseth doesn't have a problem with it...

You're not making any sense. There are LESS "big ones" now than back when Jr was a plate race wizard. Talk about stupid.

Yeah, I'm confused, too, about Jr's remarks. A total 180 from what he felt in years past. He would get to the front today and then get left hung out to dry or just couldn't stay there.
Sounds like sour grapes to me.
Still and always a Jr fan, though.
Just scratching my head right now.

Odd fact, Jr hasn't won at Dega since Sadler stopped flipping every fall race. Anyway suck it up Jr, like half of your career wins come on these tracks. (upon searching 7 of 18)

I can't find my aersol to get in all the nooks and crannies so this will have to do for now.

Jr won in the "old" car, you remember the ones that could pass one another.
Starting with the pre-race the talk was of the BIG ONE. Wasn't it Rusty who said drivers were scared? All thru the race there was talk of the pending BIG ONE. When they took the green for the GWC Bestwick said "wonder how many will come back" .
3-4 wide, 4-5+ deep, 180-190 mph, driving closer than you'd park next to a car at the mall and it's no wonder big ones happen.
na$car has screwed up racing, spec chassis, body that fits common templates, 4 different engine manufacturers that all produce almost exact HP numbers. About the only option left is what color the car is,and na$car has a say in that too. Parity sux.

If you're going to give Jr. grief about speeding on pit road at least give him props for racing his way back on to the lead lap rather than be the recipient of the 'lucky dog'. That's also something his Daddy would have done.
