I have to agree with Junior on this

it's not just earnhardt.....

“I remember when come Talladega was fun,” said Jeff Gordon. “I really do, and I haven't experienced that in a long, long time. I don't like coming here. I don't like the type of racing that I have to do.”

That's coming from the guy who finished second.

“I mean, that literally is bumper cars at almost 200 miles per hour, and I don't know anybody that likes that,” Gordon continued. “Maybe Kyle (Busch) does. I don't know. He might want to talk about it. I think he really likes this kind of racing. This is for the young guys, not for the old guys like me.”

They almost got away with missing the big one, blocking never works. I expect to see more cars riding around with the back pack next year.

Juniors opinion is only a single data point, the issue should be based on the substance not the personalities ( or the what and not the who), should there be a plate chase race? Or not.
No disrespect for Juniors, but I was opposed to a chase plate event prior to his comments..

It takes skill at those plate races, but luck is still more important there than anywhere else, it is a huge part of pack racing. Even the boldest drivers will intentionally run in the back at times, knowing they can easily Draft up front later, and count on a late almost guaranteed caution that rewards the strokers.

Try that anywhere else as going from p25 to p1 in the last 50 laps, a short track, immediate track, or road course. Even with a late caution you have to muscle up and make worthy passes, unlike the plate races.

What's funny is those strokers were caught up in the big one too.

I like plate races just not the big wrecks.

You can't have one without the - other!

"If this is how we raced every week, I'd find another job."
And I would find another sport to watch!

Agreed! 4 plate races per year is at least 4 too many...

4 different engine manufacturers that all produce almost exact HP numbers. Parity sux.

Plates Suck!

lol 'I remember when my Daddy could go 90 mph on pit road and nobody said anything about it'.

There were always 2 sets of rules when The Intimidator raced. There were the NASCAR rules and the Earnhardt rules.

Since the first restrictor plate race the comments from Jr. really aren't all that much different from any driver that I've heard interviewed after a restrictor plate crash. Especially a driver that's been involved in that crash. Mark Martin comes to mind. He used to always climb out of the wrecked car @ Talladega or Daytona with the same sentiments. I find it kind of funny too that many of the things that I heard him say the other day really weren't all that much different that some of the things that I read on this board and others about restrictor plate racing.

In watching this form of racing since it's conception it's easy to see that the race has become less and less about the car/driver with the parity now among the field. Not all that long ago, relativity speaking, a driver was able to make that run from the back to the front with decent moves and drafting. Now that seems to be gone and that's got to cause frustration among the drivers. Second place, Jeff Gordon, even echoed that thought saying that the fun was no longer there.

While I was on the edge of my seat most of the day watching these guys run side by side by side, much of the actual racing is gone. I've got to say though that I still prefer this type of racing to most of the 1.5ers though as it is exciting from start to finish. I would have enjoyed it more seeing Kenseth/Stewart/Waltrip battling it to the line caution free but for some, the wrecks are what they like to see so I guess those people got the race they wanted this time.

It's not racing. It's taking chances. And what the freak is up with these guys pushing on the low side. That's the big no-no at a plate race. And guys still were doing it all the time. Biffle, and Harvick for sure. Several others too.

The plate racing during the chase has ruined whatever sense of equal competition NASCAR had with the chase.

Its still equal, everyone has an equal chance of wrecking.

It would be so cool, if they did put a road course into the chase so we could have this same discussion again.
