If Dale Earnhardt Jr never had a concussion and miss half the season, would he be performing better?

The only person who knows is Jr himself, he's accomplished a lot over his career and is ready to call it a career. He's had so much pressure throughout his career from the drop of the first green flag and he's ready to just step away, I don't blame him at all. I'm actually quite happy for him, he wants to be with his wife and live a "normal" life.

I am very happy for him also. I'm glad he found someone to share his life with before he retired too.
 
He definitely would be performing better. Concussions are a serious issue and have affected his in-car judgement. He probably has CTE from all of the head impacts. It also didn't help that Rick gave all the preferred crew to Jimmie and Jeff. Not as bad as Kasey but still was treated like a red-headed stepchild. Rick felt the value of DJ was mostly in merch and marketing rather than racing, and that troubles me to this day. I am happy DJ is taking care of his health.
 
Before he got the concussion last year, he wasn't performing half as well in 2014 and 2015. Also doesn't help the Hendrick cars suck this year. Yes Johnson has 3 wins, but those are his only top 5s and didn't even have the best car in any of those races. Honestly Chase has been the best Hendrick car by far this year just has had some bad luck.
 
I think he's just a good driver at the end of his career. I hope he wins next week even though he's not my favorite driver.
