If we have to have a playoff system....

No such thing as have to have playoffs, that's a fictional sales pitch, full season current system same as we got now run all the way thru no gimmicks (same way they determine "the regular season champion" as a consolation prize). Nascar brass hire me as quality control, dm's open.

There is no way NASCAR and its broadcast partners will ever revert to a system that crowns a champion in any series before the last race of the season is run.

They’re 20 years into this thing.

Here’s an idea.

Have a Full Season 36 race championship
As well as a playoff championship

If someone wins both in the same year, give them some huge money bonus. That way people have a reason to try all year to get the best finish possible every week, but you still have your silly little championship race every year.

That makes too much sense.

And we can have the title unification fight on Pay Per View.

They were 30 years into the Latford system when they introduced the Chase for the Cup.

Before that they used a different system every few years, including this one used in 1974:
  • Money (dollars) winnings from track purses (qualifying and contingency awards did not count), multiplied by the number of races started.
  • The resulting figure divided by 1,000 determined the number of points earned.
Anybody got a calculator handy ?

Flo racing has been a big help for me. I don't have to take Nascar as seriously when there is a sufficient substitute to get my racing fix in. As Nascar and the TV weasels they have sold their souls too continue to reach for another band aid after band aid to fix their made for TV playoff fiasco they call the playoffs, I find more sanity watching the various dirt racing series who keep it simple.

I think the move to smear bits of racing across the streaming universe is going to go down with New Coke as a terrible idea. The money may appear to be there today but I’m predicting it’s going to kill viewership over the next couple years. The audience is not a bunch of Z kids who enjoy watching it on their phone. And I don't think these moves will change that (nor do we geezers want it).

As for the playoffs. I’m hard pressed to see USA as the ideal destination site for a serious playoff broadcast but so it goes.

Playoffs are baked into sports finances at this point. And NASCAR isn’t rating a top broadcaster so it is what it is. Far more niche than it could be. But the France Family is making money so it’s all good right…

I’m real interested in buying a Flo subscription for the Cars Tour, I might buy it this weekend for Florence and the return of Southern Jesus in the 8.
