If you don't have SPEED TV, tonight might suck.

I just talked to a DIRECTV rep. They told me this...

"The race will be on 607 tonight". Speed TV for folks that don't have directv.

This is an official answer from DTV.

Sometimes the reps have no clue as to what they are talking about. I would wait until an official word from NASCAR, Fox or Speed before I call this official.

I just talked to my local FOX stations program manager.

She has not heard this:

So maybe DTV is just trying to get a bunch of people to up their packages to include speed?

I vaguely recall reading something in the NASCAR TV contract where it's stated that where their broadcast partners can't push the Cup races on to a "sister" network such as Fox to Speed. Tried to find a link but you can imagine how many hits you get when you Google NASCAR with Fox, TV, Speed and/or Contract.

If the race ends up being run tonight, it will be on Fox. Whether certain stations choose not to carry it, that's another issue.

Can you imagine the gnashing of teeth if the local stations choose to not carry the race?

I am just really glad I have Hotpass as a back up.

NASCAR set to make an announcement at 10:15. I'll post the update when I see it.

Yes, Hotpass is pretty sweet IMO. I always DVR one of those channels as well as the primary feed.
I want to buy one of those HR34's that DirecTV offers. 5 tuners! So I could record the race and all 5 Hotpass channels but $399 is not in my current budget.

I just inquired on that last week and when all was said and done it was going to be $499. No way.

As soon as my ISP brings the virtual DVR on line, I'll get it for for the same price as my present DVR. 4 channel recording and unlimited space.

@MartySmithESPN: NASCAR President Mike Helton says based on forecast #Daytona500 postponed until 7pm.

You suck.. It's like your ISP can send you to the moon, and mine wants to give me a horse drawn cart.

When I first spoke to them about this they told me that I could get this for $199 because of being a long time customer in good standing. The $199 was just for the HR34. To that, they had to add a Home Media Kit and they were also charging for installation. By the time I was done on the phone it came to $499. Interesting to note though..... If you have Samsung Smart TV's they are capable of picking up the signal wireless over your home network. I do have a Samsung Smart TV in my living room but not in the rest of the house.

5 years from now, nascar will be selling the media package over high speed ISP's. I can't believe they don't do this already.

I already have Whole Home DVR and Media Kit so I could just plug in and go. I will have to call and see if I can get the $199 deal.

My wife thought I was a media whore. YOU guys, are the real deal.

Their contract with Turner stops NASCAR from doing all kinds of online things. That contract ends after next year which will open the floodgates.

You're all set then. I'm jealous. I was all over the $199 deal and even possibly the $299 but more than that is definitely no deal for me. I've got one HD DVR, four regular HD receivers and one standard receiver. I'd love to take advantage of that technology, it's just exceeding my budget.

The stations would be stupid not the carry the 500 tonight as it would gain more ratings then the normal crap they run on Monday nights. If anything I could see NASCAR as doing this as a trial run to see if they could do Monday night races in the future.

Nascar is in negotiations to get control from Turner before the contract is up. My guess is Nascar figures they could make more money gaining the rights back than they would owe Turner for buying out the contract.

This is going to open up a whole new world for NASCAR and I'm looking forward to it.

So now the Daytona 500 is a night race on Monday night. Kinda makes NA$CAR look a little insignificant in the sporting world having bow down to a NFL game that was played a week before Pres. Day. All I can say is sad, sad, sad.

If I had a chose between the Superbowl and Daytona 500 I'd pick the 500 everyday unless my local football team as playing in the game. But even then I'd switch back and forth to the 500.

Yep, I can see it now. "We don't get to watch our show because of a bunch of rednecks driving in circles??????? Who even watches Nascar anyway?????"
I tried going to a couple House forums and didn't see a thread on this subject. Well, that was the case, before I joined and created one. I just wanted to see what kind of response I could get.

Here's the post.....

NASCAR Preempts House tonight 2/27/2012

NASCAR rules tonight. Sorry House fans..... It looks like you'll be watching the Daytona 500 this evening.

So far, no bites.

The 500 was moved back to get rid of the bye week, for your information.
