In need of car advice

My risk didnt pay off-buddy ran the engine dry of oil and cooked it. Now the car is super low mileage. I was planning on doing a head, I wonder if I should do the engine (used). Also, apparently has some rust issues underneath not sure how bad.

Well that sucks. Another gamble buying a junk yard motor. Not sure I would call him a buddy. Hopefully you aren't in very deep. I would list it and sell it for what I could get. My opinion is that you would have to be a pretty advanced mechanic and have all of the stuff to make a swap and then the chances of getting a good junkyard motor isn't the most promising. You want to hear a motor run. Even if they guarantee it to be good, if it isn't, then you have to fight them to take it back and your out all of the effort it took and right back to where you started.

yeah paid $700 for the car, might be able to get 3-400 for it.

I am very very sad, as I wanted AWD and love Subies

Hell you paid 700 for it, so could somebody else. I'd ask for 800 "needs motor work" in an ad and take an offer if you don't get any play on it. It's not like it is the last Subaru in the world.

OK so deal done. Got out of the car Im in the hole but at least Im clear of it. Paid 120$ to have what was wrong with the car confirmed, and sold the car to a guy who works there for $300.

Lesson. Learned.

Ok take 2. Got this for 1100 book value is over 4K. Well taken care of. Opinions?

Looks like a good deal. Hope it works well for you as long as you own it. As long as you do preventive maintenance and service, if is okay now it should last a long time. It has roughly 218K miles and that isn't bad for the price.
Good luck with it!!
