Wow, save that one for next year's BOLD prediction thread! Chad leaving?

Johnson Is A crybaby worse then the busch brothers. He will cry to rick when he dont win this year and Rick will eather move him to jr. Or fire him.

How so? They've had one bad year. Not even a bad year, there are about 40 other drivers who wish they'd have the season Jimmie's having.

Carl's leading the points with just one win. I see a major points overhaul being announced this offseason. The current points system doesn't reward overall consistency... it punishes bad performances. It's no longer about being great for 10 races, it's just about surviving 10 races. If Harvick or Edwards have a DNF, they'll be in the same boat as Johnson.

IDK about that. Wins still get you back in it, but you can't have finishes outside the to 25 unless you win a bunch.

The one thing I would like to see them change is the wildcard formula. This year, it simply made race wins worth nothing for the 11th and 12th place chasers. In the current formula, a driver could make up 100 or more points with just 1 win and knock out 12th or 11th place teams. It has the potential to be very unbalanced.

I would like to see a point spread limit for getting in on 2 or more wins, and only then would you recieve no win bonus for the chase.

I,m not sure I follow this? You say the current point system doesn't reward consistency but yet Carls leading with only One Win, isn't that due to his consistency? Then you say it's just about surviving 10 races...Is'nt that considered consistentcy? Should'nt any point system Punish Bad Performances?

Of course in virtually any point system thats only 10 races long One DNF is going to ruin your chances at Winning the only way you could overcome that issue is to go back to a Full Season points system to award a championship like it used to be.

I guess I'm just a silly oldschool racer

The current point system absolutely rewards consistency. The only thing that throws that off is the Chase.

I am starting to have sympathy for the devil.
Because no matter what, if the points is redone, tweaked, or if they were reset to the old Winston no chase system, the people will still relentlessly complain.

You just can't make them happy, and the best way to get punished is to try and make them happy.

Everyone knew the rules prior, at this point Edwards has been the best at meeting the 2011 criteria, all others have not been as good.

The same applies for Johnson's 5 in row. I don't like Kurt Busch, but he mastered the chase criteria best in 2004. No need to cry about it, it is what it is, whoever wins it this year will be most worthy.

I tend to agree with you. I'm a NASCAR fan. That's it. I'm a fan. The rules have changed over the years and I still remain a fan. I have not always agreed with the changes but I still remain a fan.

It absolutely amazes me how many people here claim to be NASCAR fans yet many of their posts are anti-NASCAR. I see it every day! People bad-mouth NASCAR all the time! And they claim they are fans? If you hate NASCAR so much maybe you should pick a different sport!

fans of all sports criticize owners, officials, players, rules, the guy that sweeps the floor, etc.... they have that right and exercise it freely.

One week ago, Jeff Gordon said it was a three man race when Johnson was only 4 points back.

I'd venture to guess that most everyone felt the same way then. My oh my how things change week to week. Now, it's a new three man race. After this week it'll probably be another new three man race.

That quiet Kenseth guy seems to be creeping up there. Where might he have been had he not been pushed and penalized @ Chicagoland? I don't remember if he had enough momentum to make it around on his own or not. None the less, he looks to be sneaking up on everyone. If he should make it out of this weekend unscathed, he may just be the driver to look out for?

Right now I would'nt argue that with the consistency Edwards and Harvick have shown you can't expect them to suddenly fall off butt I'll add Kenseth and Kyle in there too if not for each of them having One Bad race they'd be right there also:

First Five Chase Races
Edwards 5th, 8th,4th,5th,3rd
Harvick 2nd,12th, 10th, 6th, 6th
Kenseth 21st, 6th, 5th, 4th, 1st
Kyle B 22nd, 11th, 6th, 11th, 2nd

I'm begining to get concerned we might have a Champion who did'nt Win a Race in the Chase :(

I agree, if a person wants to be consumed with pursuing misery, they deserve to succeed (seriously, no sarcasm intended).

I gripe some myself, I know Nascar's not perfect and I have to admit I been guilty of hammering Nascar to often myself, but they do get a few things right.

I been thinking about it the last few weeks, and this maybe the most genuinely competitive season ever. They easily have been more competitive then F1 or Indy car racing, but to hear some folks you would never believe there was nothing to celebrate.

Taking it to the extreme of pre-discounting this years yet to be determined champion, demonstrates a resolve to be dissatisfied. Or a pursuit of that misery, which is their right to enjoy.

I hope Edwards wins the Chase, and doesn't win a race in the Chase. Having a champion who only won one race would discredit the entire idea of the Chase.

There is a BIG difference between criticizing the governing body, which is called NASCAR, and being against stock car racing.

Wow! Why all the negativity all of a sudden? It's Friday practice and Happy hours is coming up soon then it's THE WEEKEND!! RACETIME!!!

IMO, Kenseth would've most likely finished close to where he did anyway.

Stick a fork in Jimmie. What the heck was that strategy yesterday? If my driver, Dale Jr., has to be Jimmie's lap dog for the restrictor plate races, then grow a pair and run up front. I listened to Dale Jr's radio and watched his DirecTV dedicated channel for the duration of that race yesterday. Time after time Jr. was asking to move up to the front of the field only to be overruled by the Chad/Jimmie combo. Finally 60 some odd laps in Chad gave the go-ahead to get Jr. some lap leader points, they ran to the front and collected his points on lap #77. Why they waited as long as they did to make a move at the end of the race is beyond me. As soon as things started getting dicey Jimmie would back off eliminating any chance they had. He got everything he deserved yesterday for playing it safe. Kudos to Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton on showing how it's done. To Jimmie & Chad..... Go see that physician of yours and maybe he can prescribe you some of this.....

totally agree. their strategy stunk. maybe the jimmie/chad era is coming to an end.

I was totally disgusted with the "lay back" formula yesterday. Not only by the dynamic duo of Earnhardt/Johnson but the Gordon/Martin and Edwards/Biffle deal. Something tells me, Edwards will pay for riding around and getting nothing better than an 11th place finish.
