Is there anyone out there happy with the sport this year?

So far what I've seen, the racing seems pretty good, but I like many am dreading next season because there will probably be changes in the engines and who knows what else. I was dead against the Chase crap, but it could actually be interesting this year, so the I'll give it a shot and see what happens.

This is the best racing I've seen in more than twenty years. It takes me back to the sixties and seventies when used to be like this before the championship mega-bucks payout created "points driving". So far, a good season, passing all around the track with someone running 3 laps down fighting with another driver 3 laps down for position.

The drivers are putting it all out there now instead of riding around because they know winning is premium now. Hell, ONE win might not even guarantee a Chase spot the way the season's going.

The racing has been good, I like the points system, I hoped for more from the new qualifying, and I'm reserving judgement on the Chase (I hope it works but I'm concerned someone like Bowyer might get an itch to affect the outcome).

Am I the only one who likes points racing under the old points system pre 2004?

Everything was different in 2004. I think the non-points system is creating some great racing, along with tire fall-off (excluding when the tires actually fall off), have made for a GREAT show so far. I'm still not sure how the last 10 races will work out. If it doesn't turn in to a cheap shot contest, I'll enjoy the racing and skip watching the banquet if the champ is someone who was top 20 in points.

I liked the old points system but also think this new system is a BIG improvement over what we have been seeing. I hated it when guys like Earnhardt,Sr. and Gordon were judicious in their judgement letting concern of points overtake their natural instinct to race. It took something away from racing. Now we have the best of all worlds and I keep thinking of Rusty Wallace bumping Darrell Waltrip in the All Star Race back in the day. Not cool and hope this year doesn't end on a note like that.

fb---- champ will certainly....undeniably,,, be driver " who was top 20 in points "! ha !

frankly i think its been pretty great so far. Bristol and California put on great shows this year!

The racing has been better. Qualifying is about the same just a different way to do it. The championship chase... to be honest I just don't give a shoe leather about it.

Is there another racing series in the world that doesn't care about season points ? (just askin , don't know)

I'm actually enjoying it, and didn't think I was gonna watch more than a few races all year. But I think what has helped my frame of mind is taking each race as a race. Points are dead to me, and I neither know, nor care, who's where as far as points go.

When I first got into auto racing as a kid many years ago, whether it be watching a race at one of the local short tracks or something on TV, I usually didn't have any idea what the point standings were and just enjoyed the event for what it was: a race to the finish line.

Over the years, IMO, NASCAR focusing on the season championship become somewhat of a distraction on race day, both to the fans and the drivers.

I like the idea, each and every race day, of focusing more on the race to the finish line and less on the season championship.

Best explanation that I have ever heard for completely reinventing racing . I can understand that. (At least until we end up with Trevor Bayne or Casey Mears as our champion.) :)

I am loving the racing this year, but that is nothing new for me.

Man, I'm enjoying the hell out of this season. Who's with me? Anyone? Bueller Bueller Bueller Ah, okay, maybe it's just me?

I'm so happy that spring time is here, and we've got racing back on sat/sun! I just love kicking back at home on my day off and watching NSCS! I'm really looking forward for today's race in TX!:)

I liked it, but it had its flaws. The biggest flaw was that the winners didn't get much of a premium over 2nd place. If the 2nd place finisher led the most laps, they could actually leave a race with as many points winner. And while there were some great championship battles under the old system, more often than not the championship was wrapped up prior to the final race.

If they had bumped up 1st to 180 and then 185 points sooner it would have been better. I don't think they did that until '04 and '07.

I think the new system has ratcheted up the intensity level. I think towards the end of the regular season, drivers who haven't won yet and aren't going to make it on points are really going to be racing all out to win. Might see pit crew changes, and and all out effort by multi car teams to get one of their win less drivers in. Clint might be spinning like a top.:D
