So this is the points standing as it sits right now. Obviously only Kenseth and Harvick are remotely a threat to Johnson's Six Pack at this point, so let's see where Johnson has to finish to clinch the Championship.

So let's say Kenseth pulls it together for Homestead and gets maximum points (48) which would give him a total of 2404. Johnson would have to finish no lower than 23rd to clinch the title.

If Harvick gets maximum points, (2398 total) Johnson would have to finish 29th or better.

Kenseth would also have to finish 2nd or better to keep Harvick in third place.

So honestly, I see the finial points shaking out at 48, 29 and 20.

Hmmm, threads started to shut up a single member usually don't go well.

Eh, I wasn't aiming it at anyone in particular, I was just wondering what the points would look like under certain circumstances.

Hmmm, in that case I apologize. I had my paranoia glasses on. :owquitit:

Now for Carl Edwards to clinch the Championship, not only does he have to get Max points, Johnson, Kenseth, Harvick, Busch, Earnhardt Jr., Gordon, Biffle, and Bowyer would all have to die before Homestead.

The rest of the contenders would just have to crash out. :D

NOT EIGHT, NO WAY

It took Richard Petty 21 years to win all seven. It took Earnhardt Sr. 19 years to win all seven. Johnson won six in only 11 years. If he's more like Richard Petty than Earnhardt Sr., then he has 11 years left. If he's more like Earnhardt Sr., he has 8 years left.

Johnson never raced Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt. ;)

I think it is the other way around, but anyway, Johnson has the advantage, have to have a really bad day to loose it, Kenseth if he runs well, will hang on to second, If he doesn't, Harvick is going to get him for second. So I will be watching. I want to see JJ 1st and Harvick 2nd.

Jimmie Johnson never won a real season's worth of points. Eliminate the fraud chase & he's just another Tony Stewart. Good driver but nothing super elite.

That is where I draw the line for comparing Jimmie to the likes of the king and Dale.

That's...pretty much my only response at this point TBH.

Quite happy if JJ wins it or Harvick ----------- I will be Johnsons biggest fan for a day (sunday)

go JJ :p

Congrats to Jimmie, Chad and the whole 48 team. It's pretty much over after today.

Y'all might as well come to peace with Jimmie winning his sixth. While at it, y'all might as well come to peace with seven and eight as well.
Not giving him #6 just yet, he could get punted into the wall on the first couple of laps like he almost did today, until I see him win #7 Dale Sr is still the best IMO.

Johnson would have 3 championships (counting this year) under the old points system.
