I'm a little disappointed in NASCARs response to Jamie McMurray retiring this year. Not even a post race interview with him? He started in the back and raced his way to the front, leading the Daytona 500 with 20 laps to go. That's a heck of a way to go out! Not to mention he finished in front of the guy that took his ride!

"Should the native of Joplin, Missouri, never make another Cup start, he ends his career with seven wins, 63 top fives and 168 top 10s"

He has won races in 3 different manufacturers and for two different owners in many of the "Crown Jewel Races" including the Daytona 500!

Jaime was a fun driver to watch. Great car control and when the car was on, he was on. I'd draw comparisons to another very "attack, attack, attack" type of guy in Takuma Sato on the open-wheel side. Erratic, crash prone, but very quick and electricifying. I hope to see Jaime in IMSA in the GT because he's always quick in them. Solid career, I wonder why his form fell off so much the past two years. I think he knew he was done last year, so he did the most respectful thing possible in giving up the 1 car.

Jaime is who he is, but I'll remember him for his awkward personality and yet he was a bull behind the wheel. Him stepping in for Sterling back in 2002 was an absolutely legendary moment and winning that first race IMHO.
 
Jamie Mac wasn't the fastest guy, didn't win a lot of races, but his wins did include the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard. He was always classy and a guy I liked... always a gentleman when out of the car. In the car, he was aggressive at times, and other times seemed to me he should have been more aggressive. Happy retirement, Jamie, and I hope the TV gig works out well.

He somehow won enough big money races to have some staying power. But I think if his name didn't rhyme with McFlurry his cup days would have been done 3 or 4 years ago.
 
I watched him race late models and modifieds every week here at i-44 speedway in MO when he was just starting, so it was cool to see him progress through the ranks. When he made that first start for Sterling Marlin, that was so cool to see.
 
Jamie could wheel it. Particularly when the money was on the line. Just watch the ‘14 All-Star Race when he went door to door with Carl Edwards on the high side and drove away for the win.

Wish he’d won more races but the ones he did were the biggest ones. No shame in that.

I wonder, with Jamie and Kasey, if they just felt like they didn't have to be as aggressive when they got in Roush and Hendrick rides, they didn't have to give it 110% to get a top-5 or a win out of a 15th place car.
 
For those that like Jamie, don't feel bad, you will be seeing him often in his new career.
I always liked him in the booth.

That..or the fact he won the all star race in 2014 and made the chase the next 3 years

He is somewhat of a Larry Phillips disciple. Enough said.

I can't say anything bad about the guy. He was a hard sonuvabitch when it mattered but was also soft-spoken in the garage, a real professional. I'm gonna miss him on restrictor plate tracks. Another Winston vet bites the dust...
 
I always liked the guy. For some reason he reminds me of Ben Stiller. And I seem to recall him being involved with Rustys daughter? Maybe not? Good guy all the way around.

Hell of a career Jamie. Will never forget watching you win in your second race ever in the silver bullet.
 
Interesting how alot of us have actually seen him almost win or win in person. I saw him almost win the 600 in 2010' in-person. He lead alot of that race and ultimately finished second to KuBu in the blue deuce.
 
McMurray inside the FS1 Studio is good. Straight forward, no hype good.
