Jayski says practice and qualifying are back.

Glad to have it back, but I hate group qualifying with elimination rounds. Totally pointless IMO.

For a majority of the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, the field will be split into two groups and participate in a practice and qualifying event that will last approximately two hours. The two-hour window will allow broadcast partners ample time and ability to cover the entire field, bringing wide-ranging, in-depth stories and insight to millions of fans each and every weekend.

You know what forces the broadcast partners to cover the entire field? Single car qualifying runs. No need for this extra knockout BS.

Yeah, I was indisposed* and wanted to get the format posted. I love that NASCAR has given up pretending anyone was going out to practice for the plate races.

I don't know why they're bringing back knock out qualifying. That idea was a total bust last time so I don't know why they expect it to work now.

Same name, different format. It will be single-car qualifying except road courses. In this case, 'knock out' means two rounds of one car at a time, not three rounds of multiple cars on the track.
 
1 lap qualifying on superspeedways? It takes 1 lap to get up to speed. I know it doesn't matter where you start but there's pit selection and entry to the next season's Clash.
 
I like it overall, just think they should have 30 minutes of practice for each group instead of 15. And more practice for all 4 plate races.

They don’t practice a lot, and they don’t need more than anything usual. But it really defeats the point of these renovations & fan garages if they’re not even gonna run some shake downs for fans to see.

Of course I don’t remember ISC / SMI asking for taxpayer dollars so I’ll give them credit on that.

My favorite qualifying is the Twin 125s and the All Star race when they included a pit stop. I'm interested to see how the four formats work. The last new format (parking at the end of pit road) was a disaster.

Qualifying is single car runs, practice is group practice

Um, no, I worry about taxpayer money being wasted on renovations. 🙄

The hardcore old school fans sure worry about practice being taken away from fans that want to camp and watch practices.

You are showing your age...been over 15 years since they ran the 125s, 150 now.
 
Continue missing the point that Rockingham & North Wilkesboro will be used for stuff other than NASCAR.

If you want to go in to the garage area and observe you will have about 2 hours of hot track action. You can go in before and stay after also

So did ISC/SMI ask for taxpayer money for any of their renovation of their tracks such as Las Vegas, Kansas, Phoenix, Talladega, Daytona Rising, Richmond, Auto Club, Atlanta? If so people have every right to be mad at some of their changes

Yes, the new practice & qualifying rules are an improvement. I would prefer a few more minutes of practice but this is much better.

But Talladega & Daytona have improved garages and they are not doing any practice, which I disagree with, should be a quick shakedown for those races as well.

He threatened to move races because Cabarrus County leaders reneged on an $80 Million dollar tax incentive to build ZMax Dragstrip and make Renovations to CMS.

In all fairness there really isnt a need to practice at the SuperSpeedways, you cant really do anything to the car to make it faster
