Jeff Burton and his situation

I think jeff should go and run in a competitive nationwide or truck ride. if its not money related why drive a car that can't win in the cup series?? making more money has to be the deciding factor.

Burton to #78. I think that may have been the "deal" he and RCR worked out a while back.

Didn't he aspire to be an actual governor at some point in his life?

I know people call him that in the garage and whatnot, maybe its time to go and take a stab at politics? Just saying.

I think his moniker is "the mayor" due to his tenure and apparent universal respect around the garage.

I'm curious to find out where he lands, maybe the 51? That might be a decent ride for him to stay amongst the top 20. Wasn't there also rumors he might go to the 30? That would be junk.

That's surprising. I don't know if there's another respectable ride besides the #78 out there and I don't think that would happen with Truex Jr. available.

Mike Dillon takes over RCR.
Jeff Gordon is a minority owner, could oversee HMS for Linda and Rick.
John Henry will probably appoint someone to oversee RFR operations.

Betcha he's going in the 78. They ARE a RCR satellite.

Everybody is convinced Gordon will take over HMS. I'm not so sure.

There was a lifetsyle piece in Forbes today about Gordon. Seems very content playing the husband/father game. Not sure the life of an owner is for him. Not like he needs the money.

I don't know why people always say that about Gordon. I don't see him running HMS at any point in the future. He has no experience in running an organization as big as HMS, or even one half the size. Like you said he's a family man now. Running HMS would require much more time than his current job driving the 24 car, and I doubt he'd even want to.

I think because he owns a stake in the 48 team people assume he has an interest in being a team owner.

I said he "Could Oversee" not run day to day operations and as far as him not having any business experience he runs and has been running a very large company with a lot of employees for many years, he's no dummy. Again I said could but I personally doubt he will want to.

Has nobody thought of the possibility that Hendrick may sell the team to Junior when he retires? That may be how JR Motorsports goes to Cup.

Junior can't run a business any more than Jeff can . Kelly is the brain behind Junior .

Jeff may not want to but if he had to he would.

Gordon may not have the experience to run an organization but he has the connections and all that is needed for it.

If anything, it can be learned. Look at Kyle.

With that said, there probably is a person chosen to run the organization once Rick cant no longer do so.

I get the feeling Rick Hendrick is just a figure head at this point. I think one of the reasons why he's been so successful is because he puts good people in place and steps back to let them do their jobs. He's the face of the company but I seriously doubt he's running the day to day operations. Same is probably true for Childress. Now Jack Roush is another story, from everything I've heard he's a micro manager extraordinaire so he'll likely cling to whatever decision making duties he can. Either way I don't think any of these guys will "retire" in the way any of us would. The way I see it, they will continue to be the face and mentors for their respective companies/brands until they die.
