Weird though....I thought the #3 on the track in person would resonate with me--it didn't. Not even a little. I felt as you do about number retirement, and I am not sure my mind has changed. However, I did learn when I saw the #3 in Fontana that it was the dude who used to drive that number--not the number.

Richard Petty Motor-sports that number with Marcos Ambrose. I believe they would keep it for themselves as 9 is a nice single digit racing number.

As far as I know, 0 and 8 are the only single digit numbers not being used next year....maybe run #8 at the risk of pissing off some Jr fans?

I'd actually like to see HMS bring back the #25. That number was a part of that organization for so many years.

JJ is only a year younger than Jr. Will JJ retire due to age or performance? Gonna be some empty seats here real soon.
 
If Gordon retires, Hendrick needs to put Edwards in the 24. That's a scary good combo
 
I'd say Chase better start getting fitted for that #24 firesuit..

It's because Austin is no Dale. The 3 in cup without Earnhardt driving is like Saved by the bell the new class. Yeah it's kinda sorta the same thing only awful.

although no gordon fan, i would hate to see him retire because of medical reason. have much respect for him as a driver. but i believe just because of his age, his back will never get much better.
 
I know one thing. I'm going to be an emotional mess and will probably be a bit lost when he does finally hang it up. Whenever it is.

Still love the sport and I think I'll end up pulling for either Larson or Elliott, but looking forward to sunday wont be the same :(
 
If his doctors tell him that he won't be doing anymore damage than what is already there, I see him hanging on for a while but if it's like you face serious consequences with one more good hit????.. There is the answer. Both his and old man E'hardt fans are the worst and really tarnish the shine off two brilliant careers. JMHO.

Well y'all got to take into consideration of team dynamics. I mean certain drivers just aren't going to mesh with certain teams and team members.
