Jeff Gordon Is A 7-Time Champion

Almost everyone has been saying since the chase began that one bad race can finish your chances. That's no truer than it is right now. 6 of the last 9 races, Gordon finished in the top-10, and half of those were top-5s. But one bad race, done.

Its because its so hard to beat at least 4 of the best drivers out there by enough positions in just two races. I mean damn Jeff got 2nd and he's still out.. thats rough.

nice try. how many championships you think Earnhardt would have if they had had the chase format?

Which Chase format? I remember reading somewhere that he would have fewer championships, but I'm not sure which format (perhaps both).

Either way, the best driver throughout an entire season is a much more credible way to determine a champion than the best 16 drivers for the first 26 races, then the best 12 after the next 3, then the best 8 after the next 3, then the best 4 after the next 3, then the best of 4 in the finale.

I think he's got a pretty good shot at winning next week. Gotta get closer to 100 wins.

Ready for Homestead.

If that happens after the Earnhardt and Johnsons wins after being eliminated, it'd be absolutely perfect. **** Brian France.

you can not compare points to points in different formats. what i'm trying to say is if Earnhardt had had to race under this chase format his count would be higher and jeff's count would be lower.

obviously just my opinion. which is just as valid as those claiming jeff as a 7 time champ. and keep in mind, I have hated the chase from day 1.

Some of you are driving yourselves crazy with the "what ifs".
The Chase is either liked or disliked. Trying to figure out the woulda, coulda, shoulda in the past goes nowhere.

Its bordering into hilarity at this point.

I really should go watch some Game of Thrones now. LOL

Especially since if almost anyone else but the guy that won, won, he would have been in. Holy **** lol.

I'm watching Anthony Bourdain. :)

Now, how come he's a chef but I never actually see him cook anything in any of his shows? ROFL

Netflix has the first 2 seasons of Parts Unknown. Been watching that.

You actually learn more about the place than food. LOL

I feel sorry for yall. I guess dale Earnhardt doesn't rate 7 cups.

The perfect storm for Gordon fans... worked out well for me.. I think Gordon will win at Homestead lol... with Joey 2nd of course :D
You realize the only chance Logano has to win a championship is because of the chase? This sport is becoming a joke and can only make headlines due to a pit road fight.

How in the hell can you guys follow all 72,000 of these chase threads. We actually had discussions like this before the chase because winning wasn't rewarded consistency was. This is what we got, deal with it and move on. Maybe Brian will accidentally stumble over somthing that most of us will like.

I actually like the points as they are. They need a few tweaks to help spread the wealth throughout the top 10 but the points are not really the issue for me.

What compounds to the problem is that on top of the new points which would still generate close battles in the standings without the chase is that we do have a chase. And what's worst is that the chase resets every 3 races.

That's one too many gimmick all in all.

You do realize bla bla bla waaah waah waaah shaaaaaaadduuuuupp!

Like I care... GO JOEY!! Hahaha!

I'm not a Gordon fan, never have been, I pulled for the man in black, diehard 3 fan. With that being said, the only person that can be mentioned in the same breath as Petty and Earnhardt is Gordon.

Nascar has screwed their history up and has screwed Gordon big time. Instead of talking about Petty, Earnhardt, and Gordon, history will talk about Petty, Earnhardt, and Johnson.

If anyone wonders why the sports numbers have fallen off a cliff, then you've got your answer.

Um? How is that when there's only a handful of NASCAR racers with a record 6-pack, JJ would've been king had he gotten #7 this year. :p

Exactly. Just ask the Super Bowl XLVIII Champion Denver Broncos.
To be fair though, Dale Jr is an 8-Time Champion under a point system that I am currently working on. I am planing on sending in my new championship structure once I can figure out how to get Jr his eighth or even his first for that matter. If Brian gives it the okay, I'll then fill you in on the details.

I admit that I'm as guilty as anybody when it comes to talking about coulda woulda shoulda championships. And even though I've made my thoughts on this format known probably more than I should have, I finally have accepted it even if I don't love it. I've got a guy to root for on Sunday, so I'm just gonna watch and see what happens.

Yep, same here.

One can only keep on fighting for so long. I'll be pretty content regardless of who wins, but go Newman and Hamlin!

Somewhere, @hawg dawg is smiling right now.
